f
Cassius Clay will dance the
"Ali Shuffle" tonight in Atlan-
ta's Municipal Auditorium. His
partner before a sellout crowd of
5,000 and a closed circuit tele-
vision audience will be Jerry
Quarry, who is still trying to
convince himself as well as the
public that he should be the star
of the act.
Except for a few practice ses-
by J03 Darrell Christian
sions, it will be the first time
Clay has performed in three and a
half years. He refused to dance
for Uncle Sam, was therefore con-
victed of violating the Selective
Service Act,and, although appeals
on that case are still pending,
the politicians and the boxing
lords ruled him unfit to ply his
trade.
That, of course, is boxing.
There were rumors in more than
70 communities before Atlanta
that he would fight Joe Frazier
for the world heavyweight cham-
pionship that was taken away from
him outside the ring. And a few
times he actually signed contracts
for such a fight.
But in each case, either he
was refused a license or the roar

Army, Navy losers again; Air Force wins
Ohio State wakes up in second half to escape lllini fire
Top-ranked Ohio State, Nebras-
ka and Georgia Tech are among the
winners in college football —
both Army and Navy have lost
again.
1 Ohio State had a scare from an
obviously fired-up Illinois team,
but the Buckeyes came through with
i a 48 to 29 victory. Ohio State
locked it up with three touchdowns
in the last period.
Just before the kick-off it
was announced that Illinois coach
Jim Valek had been fired — ef-
fective after the game.
John Brockington saved the day
Ohio State. He slammed five
ds for a touchdown with four
utes left in the third period
to put Ohio State in front 27 to
23. And, Brockington opened that
big fourth period with his third
touchdown of the game — on an
eleven yard run.
Fourth-ranked Nebraska scored
41 points in the first half and
beat Oklahoma State 65 to 31.
There were some spectacular runs
in that game. Oklahoma State's
Dick Graham ran a kickoff back 98
yards for a touchdown, and
Nebraska's John Rodgers galloped
66 yards for a touchdown on a
punt return.
Georgia Tech beat Tulane 20 to
6, with defensive back Rick Lewis
grabbing a big share of the lime-
light. He scored two touchdowns
within 27 seconds in the last
quarter to break open a scoreless
deadlock. One of Lewis' scores
came on a 30-yard run after grab-
bing a fumble in mid-air, and the
other T-D came on a 56-yard run
with an intercepted pass.
Pitt scored its fifth consec-
utive victory with a 28 to 17
romp over fumbling Miami of
Florida. Pitt quarterback Dave
Havem passed for two of the Pitt
touchdowns.
Yale and Dartmouth continued
unbeaten, each winning its fifth
game. Dartmouth clobbered Har-
vard 37 to 14 with John Short
leading the way. Short scored
three touchdowns and passed for a
fourth on an option play...Yale
trounced Cornell 38 to 7. Soph-
omore Dick Jauron scored for Yale
on runs of 34 and 62 yards.
Columbia's sophomore quarter-

afternoon. He passed for three
touchdowns and ran for a fourth
as Columbia ran over Rutgers 30
