Hundreds of people were at the A.T.
Mahan Elementary School Saturday for
the annual Spring Carnival.
“The primary purpose for the carnival
is to provide an exciting and fun day for
the children,” said John Allan, elementary
school principal. He added that the
money raised will help pay for school sup-
plies.
Children had a myriad of games and
activities to keep them busy. One of the
crowd favorites was the tye-dye booth. “I
like the tye-dye and the go-fish,” related
sixth grader Chris Crawson.
I’m just hanging out,” said sixth grader
Gerald Gray. “I like the games, especially
e basketball toss,” he added.
Other activities included a cake walk,

bean-bag throw, crab walk, face painting
and more.
“I’ve won two fish,” giggled second
grader Shannon Kirkwood. “This is my
favorite booth, but I only have one more
ticket,” she lamented.
It wasn’t only the kids getting in on the
fun. “I’m just volunteering to help out
with the school,” remarked OTA1 Scott
Rast. “I volunteered for the spin art and
the duck pond. I just like helping the
kids.” Some students also put forth an
effort to make the carnival a success.
“I’m just hanging around and helping
out,” commented ninth grader Richard
Kindel.
This year’s carnival went over better
with the students. “I like this year’s better
than last because I have more friends
here, I know the place better and there is
more to do,” Crawson noted. Kirkwood
added, “This is better because I’ve never
seen the fish thing, and I got to have my
socks tye-dyed.”
