music. In her early days she was or-
ganist in the Tjaldbuda Kirkja, one of
the early Icelandic churches in
Winnipeg.
During the many years she hved in
California she devoted herself to
music and remained active in those
circles for many years. She was a
member of the women's group af-
filiated with the University of Berk-
ley. She gave some lectures at the
University on Icelandic culture, his-
tory and language.
Louise was kind to children and,
"My first recollection of my cousin
Louise is when she came to visit
mama when we lived on the little
farm in Riverton, Manitoba, and I in-
sisted on going to Winnipeg with her,
and she took me along and I stayed
about a week with her. I was only
about five or six at the time. She
bought me a dress and patent leather
sandals and white socks and her
father bought me a doll. She was very
interested and kind to children."
IN REMEMBRANCE
Do not stand by my grave and weep,
I am not there, I did not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint on the snow,
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain,
When you waken in the morning
hush,
I am the swift uplighting rush,
Of quiet birds' circled flight,
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I'm not there I did not cry.

Description of
character Njál
He was so skilled in law that no
one was considered his equal. He
was a wise and prescient man. His
advice was sound and benevolent,
and always turned out well for those
who followed it. He was a gentle man
of great integrity; he remembered the
past and discerned the future, and
solved the problems, of any man who
came to him for help.
Note: From translation of Njál's
Saga by Magnus Manusson and Her-
mann Palsson.
Njál is a very well known if not the
most fascinating character in the Ice-
landic Sagas. His logic of reasoning
and legal strategy makes the story
bearing his name, a fascinating book
to read.
