Abstract

Accessibility and the Web

Web accessibility is about making your website accessible

to all users, disabled or not. There are many benefits in

making your websíte accessible, such as íncrease in user

reach and higher search engine ranking.

As of yet there are no laws or regulations regarding

web accessibility in Iceland. However both the public and

private sector have proven ambitious towards improving

web accessibility.

In autumn 2005 the Prime Minester's office along with

The Association of Local Authorities in Iceland published

a report of a study of accessibilty and usability of public

and local authority web sites. The Land Registry of Iceland

scored very well in usability but accessibility issues were in

poor shape. Since then The Land Registry of Iceland has

become the first Icelandic government agency to receive

certification for good web accessibility.
