This would, as such, explain the placename element of beiti. If this supposi- tion holds water, we now have a new range of sites whose placenames indicate histori- cal settlements. It is interesting in this context, to note that the area on the opposite bank of Brúsá, above Miðbø - and between Miðbø and við Garð - is called Garðsbeitið. Thus this area, although it has undergone modern de- velopment, is of archaeological interest, fig. 10. Finally it is worth noting, that the site of
