WINNIPEG, HATIÐARBLAÐ 1981-7 Dansflokkurinn frá Reykjaskóla ásamt kennara sínum. Talið frá vinstri, efri röð: Ruth S. Gylfadóttir, Sæunn Sævarsdóttir, Jónína Benediktsdóttir kennari. Néðri röð: Dagbjört Leifsdóttir, Sigríður Snæbjörnsdóttir, Gunnhildur Gestsdóttir, Kristín Pétursdóttir og Guðlaug Bjarnadóttir. Á myndina vantar Jófríði Kristinsdóttur. Þær dansa í Montreal Þessar 8 íslensku stúlkur heim- sóttu Montreal í lok júní og tóku þátt í dansráðstefnu sem haldin var þar í borg. Stúlkurnar eru við nám í Reykjaskóla í Hrútafirði. Kennari þeirra Jónína Benediktsdóttir dvaldist í Montreal um fjögurra ára skeið við Magistersnám í íþrótta- sálarfræði. S.l. vetur kenndi hún íþróttir við Reykjaskóla og mynd- aði þennan hóp. Ráðstefnan sem þær sækja er haldin árlega í Montreal og fór hópurinn þangað í boði Canadian Dance Association. Tilgangurinn var ma.a. að leitast við að sýna hvern- Suffolk Country Fair ig , dans getur verið hluti af al- mennri íþróttakennslu í grunn- skóla og var á ráðstefnunni rætt um gildi tjáningarfrelsis fyrir unglinga og börn. Auk þess að sýna dans var hópurinn í viku námskeiði hjá færustu danskennurum hér í Kanada. Hópurinn ferðaðist síðan um Quebec - fylki og síðan var ferðinni heitið til New York og skoðaðar danssýningar á Broadway. Hópurinn vonast til að sú reynsla sem hlýst í vesturferðinni verði til að efla dansáhuga og tjáningarfrelsi meðal unglinga heima. All ethnic groups invited to participate The 22nd Annual Suffolk County Fair will be held August 28 through September 7, 1981, at the beautiful facility "formerly known as" Parr Meadows Race Track. The fair is in- terested in having a complete ethnic food center to round out their family entertainment show. This fun-filled event will be an old íashioned hoe-down featuring the Long Island Skydivers, an Oktoberfest, a Rodeo, Blue Grass Music by Bob Paisley and the Southern Blue Grass String Band, and a huge Flea Market, all there on weekends. Featured daily will be the Catskill Puppet Productions, Lippcos Comedy Chimps, Smokey Warren "The Eastern King of Western Swing", Long Island Banjo Society, Animal Petting Zoo, Com- mercial and Educational exhibits, Farm Animals plus many many more fun surprises. Easily reached by car, the fair will be held at "formerly known as" Parr Meadows Race Track. Travelling east, take the Long Island Ex- pressway exit 68N, or north from the Hamptons take William Floyd Parkway. The fair grounds are located on the William Floyd Parkway. Parking for 10,000 cars.
