16-WINNIPEG, HÁTÍÐARBLAÐ 1981 Folklorama 81 Winnipeg's Festival of Nations Folklorama — Festival of Nations will take place in Winnipeg, Canada from Sunday, August 9th to Satur- day, August 15th. Thirty-six pavilions will par- ticipate in this year's Folklorama, including the new United States Pavilion featuring the culture of New Orleans — the birthplace of Jazz. Admission to the pavilions is granted upon presentation of a FOLKLORAMA passport, which costs $6.00 for adults, $2.00 for senior citizens and free for children under 12 when accompanied by an adult. Passports will be on sale at all pavilions, Winnipeg branches of the Bank of Montreal and at the Com- munity Folk Art Council of Win- nipeg Offices — 2nd floor of the Winnipeg Convention Centre, 375 York Avenue. For the duration of the Festival, the pavilions will be open to the public from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight on weekends and 6 p.m. to 12 mid- night during the week. The cultural richness of Winnipeg is admiringly portrayed in the many exhibits and demonstrations featured at each pavilion. As a visitor, you learn the history, art, crafts, music, food and traditions unique to each culture. The week's festivities start out with the Opening Ceremonies on Sunday, August 9 at 1 p.m. in the Centennial Concert Hall. Admission is free. The ceremonies include the introduction of the mayors and hostesses of each pavilion, as well as a multicultural show featuring the music and dance of various pavilions. The closing ceremonies take place on Sunday, August 16th, at 7 p.m. in the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Admission is $3.00. The event con- sists of the crowning of Miss Folklorama and her Court and entertainment provided by the pavilions. Bus tours will be coming to Win- nipeg from the United States. Each tour will have scheduled reserve seating at two pavilions every night. If the tour wishes to visit any of our pavilions, it is free to do so. However, visits to other pavilions do not include easy access so visitors may have to wait in Une-ups to get in* From the Iceíandic Club of Greater Seattle: Nordic Festival 1981 Is set for August 2, from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Seattle Center. The festival will open with a parade of people in national costumes, fiddlers and folk dancers, as well as our princesses. Icelandic women in the area, who have costumes, or whose children have costumes, are urged to par- ticipate in the parade on behalf of the Icelandic community. Each Scandinavian country will present a half-hour program of sing- ing, folk dancing, or instrumental music. Movies from all five countries will be shown, and dancing for the public will close the festival. Islendingadagurinn The annual picnic will be held on Saturday, August 15, at Silver Beach — good news for those of us who remember past good times there! The time is 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bring your own food; fun and games will be provided by the club. Come and have fun in the sun — we hope!!
