Folklorama 81 Winnipeg's
Festival of Nations
Folklorama — Festival of Nations
will take place in Winnipeg, Canada
from Sunday, August 9th to Satur-
day, August 15th.
Thirty-six pavilions will par-
ticipate in this year's Folklorama,
including the new United States
Pavilion featuring the culture of
New Orleans — the birthplace of
Jazz.
Admission to the pavilions is
granted upon presentation of a
FOLKLORAMA passport, which
costs $6.00 for adults, $2.00 for
senior citizens and free for children
under 12 when accompanied by an
adult. Passports will be on sale at all
pavilions, Winnipeg branches of the
Bank of Montreal and at the Com-
munity Folk Art Council of Win-
nipeg Offices — 2nd floor of the
Winnipeg Convention Centre, 375
York Avenue.
For the duration of the Festival,
the pavilions will be open to the
public from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight
on weekends and 6 p.m. to 12 mid-
night during the week.
The cultural richness of Winnipeg
is admiringly portrayed in the many
exhibits and demonstrations
featured at each pavilion. As a
visitor, you learn the history, art,
crafts, music, food and traditions
unique to each culture.
The week's festivities start out
with the Opening Ceremonies on
Sunday, August 9 at 1 p.m. in the
Centennial Concert Hall. Admission
is free. The ceremonies include the
introduction of the mayors and
hostesses of each pavilion, as well as
a multicultural show featuring the
music and dance of various
pavilions.
The closing ceremonies take place
on Sunday, August 16th, at 7 p.m. in
the Winnipeg Convention Centre.
Admission is $3.00. The event con-
sists of the crowning of Miss
Folklorama and her Court and
entertainment provided by the
pavilions.
Bus tours will be coming to Win-
nipeg from the United States. Each
tour will have scheduled reserve
seating at two pavilions every night.
If the tour wishes to visit any of our
pavilions, it is free to do so.
However, visits to other pavilions
do not include easy access so
visitors may have to wait in line-ups
to get in.
From the Icelandic Club of Greater Seattle:
Nordic Festival 1981
Is set for August 2, from 1 to 9 p.m.

have costumes, or whose children
have costumes, are urged to par-
ticipate in the parade on behalf of
the Icelandic community.
Each Scandinavian country will
present a half-hour program of sing-
ing, folk dancing, or instrumental
music.
Movies from all five countries will
be shown, and dancing for the
