Maurice C. Eyolfson retires
Mr. Maurice C. Eyolfson retired
from official duties April 30th. He
celebrated his 60th birthday earlier
that month. "Moe" as he is best
known among friends was born at
Riverton, Manitoba, April 14, 1927,
son of Arnheiður Eyolfson and her
husband, Fred Eyolfson, both of two
distinguished pioneer families of
New Iceland. Maurice's paternal
grandparents were Mr. and Mrs.
Thorsteinn Eyolfson, of Riverton.
(Thorsteinn was a brother of Gunn-
steinn Eyolfson, the well known
composer and writer, but his mother,
Arnheiður, was the eldest daughter
of the poet Guttormur J.
Guttormsson.
Maurice Eyolfson came to Win-
nipeg at the age of 17 to attend
Business College. Upon graduation
he was employed for a short time
with the Canadian Wheat Board but
became an employee with Moore
Business Forms where he, at 24,
became the company's Sales Repre-
sentative in Saskatchewan. This was
the beginning of a very productive
life for Maurice and to this day he
still is involved and very much so.
Through the years his services have
been sought by private companies as
well as governments, but Maurice
has spent numerous years working

for the Government of Manitoba at
a very important position.
Although work often took Maurice
away from his hometown, he never
forgot his Icelandic roots. In fact, he
has been very active in the Icelandic
community of Manitoba. He was
President of the Icelandic Festival
Committee a few years ago, sat on
the Board of Directors of Lögberg-
Heimskringla and is still involved
with Betel Home. His involvement in
the community has led to numerous
trips to Iceland where Maurice has
many friends. He is quite familiar
with Reykjavík and a year or two
ago, Moe volunteered to act as tour
guide for a few close friends from
Winnipeg, some of whom were mak-
ing their first trip to the old country.
As he now has retired, Moe un-
doubtedly will use his time produc-
Maurice Eyjolfsson
tively and continue his involvement
in the affairs of Icelandic people in
Manitoba. Lögberg-Heimskringla
wishes him well in years to come and
thanks him for his support through
the years.
