Trístin Tergesen to sing
Tristin has always been interested
in music. She started her voice
lessons with Helga Anderson
and to this day relies heavily on her for
advise. She also studied at the
University of Toronto with Joanne
Bentley and at the University of
Manitoba with ICaren Jensen. In 1984.
she received the bronze medal from
the Western Board of Music for the
highest vocal exam mark. The Royal
Toronto Conservatory of Music
awarded her a silver medal for her

Canada lceland Foundation

processed by the Canada Iceland Foundation. Priority may be
given to first time applicants.

The Heidmar Bjornson Memorial Scholarshíp
In the amount of $500. Will be given annually to the student
obtaining the highest academic standing in Icelandíc Studies in
his/her final year at the University of Manitoba. The award will be
made by the Department Head.
The Margaret Breckman Mack Student Award
In the amount of $500. Wiil be given annually to a needy student of
good scholastic ability who is enroled in the University of Manitoba
Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree Program.
The Canada lceland Foundation Scholarship
One scholarship of $500. to be awarded annually. Award to be
determined by academic standing and leadership qualities. To be
offered to a university student studying towards a degree in any
Canadian university.
Einar Pall & Ingibjorg Jonsson Memorial Scholarshlp
One scholarship of $500 to be awarded annually. Award to be
determined by academic standing and leadership qualities. To be
offered to a high schooi graduate proceeding to a Canadian
university or the University of Iceland.
Emilia Palmason Student Aid Fund
Two awards of $500 each to be glven annually. The recipients must
be of good moral character, college calibre and primarily in need of
help to continue their studies in high school, college or at the
University level. The donors hope thát “somewhere along the
highway of life" the award winners wilJ try to provide comparable
help to another needy student.
The Gunnar Slmundson Memorial Scholarship
One scholarship of $500. to be awarded annually. This annual
scholarship wili be awarded to a student in university or proeeeding
into a university in Canada or the Unlted States. The recipient must
demonstrate ftnancial need and high scholastic ability.
Thorvaldson Scholarship
One scholarshíp of $500 to be awarded annuaily. This annual
scholarship will be awarded to a student in university or proceeding
into a university in Canada or the United States. The reclpient must
demonstrate financial need and high scholastic ability.
John Jonas Gillls Memorlal Scholarship
The late Ingunn Gillis made a gift to the Canada Iceland
Foundation to set up a scholarship in memory of her son. A
scholarship of $500. wiU be awarded.
Arnold W. Holm Scholarship
One scholarship of $500. to be awarded annually. This scholarship
to be awarded to a student demonstrating financial need - who
qualifies to proceed to university education and degree.
Grade IX voice exam.
In the school year of 1989-90, she
was the recipient of the Icelandic
Government Scholarship and
attended the University of Iceland.
While there she studied music at the
Tónlistarskóli íslands.
Over the years, Tristin has been
active in many musical productions
and has been a member of several
choirs. The musical productions
range from school musicals in the
Fort Garry schools. to Rainbow
Stage and several of the Gilbert and
Sullivan Society musicals. For years
she sang with the Norwood United
Church Choir. She was in the choir
that toured Iceland in 1987. She has
been a member of the University of
Manitoba Singers, the Women’s
Choir with the University of Toronto,
and the Manitoba Youth Choir.
As a youngster, she was part of a
group that often performed at the
Icelandic Festival and around the
province. They were directed by Len
and Karen Vopnfjord and were
called the Hekla Singers. They experi-
enced a wonderful opportunity to
travel to Quebec to sing at various
festival events. In more recent years,
she joined forces with Doug
Anderson and Scott McCoy to sing at
the Folk Fest at íslendingadagurinn
under the name of the Smokin’
Goldeye trio.
For several yearst Tristin entered
the Winnipeg Music Festival in many
different categories. In 1990, she won
the lutenist class which in tum quali-
fied her to sing in the Rose Bowl
competition.
Tristin is the daughter of Terry and
Loma Tergesen, grandaughter of Lara
(Solmundson) Tergesen and the late
Joe Tergesen, and Olla (Einarson)
and Stefan Stefanson, all of Gimli.
Tristin will be performing with
Ryan and Grant Sigurdson, violinists
from Edmonton, at the Eaton
Celebrity Concert, Saturday, July 30,
1994, 8:00 p.m. at the Gimli
Composite High School on Highway
