Obituary:
Sigurdur Job Sigurdson
July 18,1921 - July 8,1994
After a lengthy battle with can-
cer, Siggi passed away from
this life quietly just 10 days
short of his 73rd birthday.
Born on his parents homestead in
Vidir, Manitoba, he was the second
son of Vidir pioneers Johanness
Tryggvi Sigurdson and Gudrun
Bjorg Hallgrímsdóttir Sigurdson.
He received his formal education
in Lowland and as a very young

man, left home to work in the lum-
ber camps in the local vicinity and
fish freighting on Lake Winnipeg
before he joined the Canadian
Army. Siggi was an armoured car
driver with the 12th Manitoba
Dragoons “D” Squadron and served
overseas during WWII earning the
rank of Sargeant as well as three
medals and two stars. Siggi was a
member of the Norwood Legion
Branch #43.
After the war, he lived and
worked in and around Winnipeg, as
well as a short while in Vancouver.
His most recent working experience
was a driver with Alpine Messenger
Service for several years.
Upon retirement, Siggi took plea-
sure in watching his grandchildren
grow up, chatting up a storm with
his friends, watching T.V. and many
hours reading books on any variety
of subjects.
Siggi was predeceased by his par-
ents, one brother Gunnar Sigurdson,
his sister Laufey Stevenson, Thorun
Sepke, Ingibjörg Rudyk, Jona
Vierch, Stefania Yemen, Sigros
Boychuk and Fridrikka Sigurdson.
He leaves to mourn his passing,
two daughters Patricia (Jack)
Bartlette, Sherrie (Don) Blasko of
Winnipeg, one son Ralph (Faye)
Sigurdson of Elkford, B.C., six
grandsons Dean, Jeffery, Micheal
Bartlette, Jason, Christopher Blasko
and Thor Sigurdson; one grand-
daughter Amber Sigurdson and three
great granddaughters Ashley, Alison
and Kaleigh Bartlette, as well as sev-
eral nieces, nephews and friends.
