The editors, contributors and
staff of Lögberg-Heimskringla
try to attend as many Icelandic
events as we can. Unfortunately, due
to the constraints of finances and
time, we are not able to attend nearly
as many as we would like to.
Almost everything within our
reach occurs in Manitoba, where the
paper is published. Last year, we
were able to attend the Hjemkomst
in Fargo, North Dakota; this year we
were unable to because the editor
was in Iceland for the 50th anniver-
sary of Icelandic Independence. Last
year we were in Minot, North
Dakota, and we hope to be there
again this year.
But that is about as far afield as
we can go. We would love to attend
and report on events in Vancouver or
Toronto, in Seattle or Virginia or
New York, but obviously we cannot.
That is, we cannot if you will not
help us. On this page and the follow-
ing two we record some moments of
Icelandic celebration. They are most-
ly from Manitoba, but they need not
be if you will help us. When your
club or association has an event, take
some pictures, make a few notes and
send them to us. We will try to retum
the pictures but we guarantee that
your event will receive full coverage
in Lögberg-Heimskringla if you will
simply tell us what is happening in
places that we cannot be.
We are looking for regular con-
tributors as well, people who will take
on the thankless task of sending us
the news from your particular com-
munity on a regular basis. We get
some of the newsletters, but they are
often published on an irregular basis.
There are a great many more Westem
Icelanders on this continent than take
this newspaper. We want to publish
what you want to read, but we need
your comments and your contribu-
tions. Criticism is easy; contributing
takes a bit of work.
