The Department of lcelandic Language and Literature at the University of
Manitoba would like to invite you to the Páll Guðmundsson Memorial Lecture.
Acclaimed lcelandic-American writer Bill Holm will read from his new book,
Eccentric Islands. 7:30 pm in the lceland Reading Room, 3rd floor, Elizabeth
Dafoe Library, University of Manitoba. Refreshments will be served following
the lecture. Free admission, free parking in B-Lot. Please RSVP by March 20

Collection at the University of Manitoba at 7:00.
Jon Sigurdson Chapter IODE 85th Birthday Bridge and Whist Dessert Party
at Betelstadur, 1061 Sargent Avenue. Dessert at 1:00 pm followed by card

The lcelandic Canadian Frón will hold its annual meeting at 7:00 pm in the
Scandinavian Centre. All cordially welcome. Nominations open for president,
Treasurer, and two members-at-large.
The lcelandic Memorial Society of Nova Scotia invites the public to come to
the Musquodoboit Forestry Complex (7:00 pm to 9:00 pm) to see the final
version of its video “Markland in Nova Scotia,” produced by Rex Tasker and
David Dwyer. Icelandic food, music, and travel videos will follow.

Next ICCT meeting—ANTARCTICA. "Students on lce" is the first and only
company providing educational trips for students to Toronto, Antarctica, and
the Arctic. Holly Garrett was one of nearly 100 Canadian high school stu-
dents, teachers and scientists to board an icebreaker for Antarctica. 2:30

The Brúin Chapter INL of Selkirk will hold its annual “First Day of Summer”
Concert at the Lutheran Hall, at the corner of Manitoba Ave. and Jemima St.
beginning at 7:30 pm. There will be a program, silent auction and raffles, fol-
lowed by a lunch of ethnic lcelandic foods. Everyone is welcome.
Sixth Annual Fundraising Auction at the Markerville Creamery, 11:00 am.
A Kaffi Mót, in honour of Svavar Gestsson (Consul for lceland in Canada)
and his wife Guðrún Ágústsdóttir, and Helga Bertelsen, will be held 2:00 to
4:30 pm at the Scandinavian Centre. Tickets $8.00, available at the door or

The Annual INL Convention will be hosted by the lcelandic Club of BC this
year. It will be held at the "Inn at Westminster Quay" hotel in New
Westminster, BC from April 26 - 29/2001. Please make hotel reservations by
March 23. Room cost is $99.00 plus tax and parking if applicable. Toll free

The Power Plant is pleased to offer an exciting ten-day trip to Scandinavia
including lceland. In light of the fact that Scandinavia has become a hot spot
for contemporary art in recent years, we have designed a unique tour of
Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and lceland. Spearheaded by long-time Power
Plant volunteers Jeanne Parkin and Tom Bjarnason, the trip includes a visit
to Kiasma in Helsinki (Finland), Louisiana in Humlebaek (Denmark), and

ICCT Annual General Meeting.
Fríður Ólafsdóttir, a woman who has spent many years researching the ori-
gins of lceland’s distinctive national costumes, is coming to North America
to give a series of lectures. More dates and locations TBA.
