PHOTO: STEINÞÓR GUÐBJARTSSON ‘I know what it has meant’ On November 3, 125 years had passed since world famous explorer Vilhjálmur Stefánsson was born in Arnes, Manitoba. Vilhjálmur Stefánsson was born on November 3, 1879. Ninety years after his birth, a memorial park was officially opened and a monument was unveiled in Árnes. On a stone behind a statue of Vilhjálmur Stefánsson is a sentence writ- ten in Icelandic, French and English: “Ég veit livað ég hefi reynt og hvers virði það er mér.” (“I know what I have experienced, and I know what it has meant to me.’j PHOTOS: STEINÞÓR GUÐBJARTSSON Loren and Ginny Gudbjartson with their children Solrun and Arinbjorn dressed up at the pumpkin party. About 500 people in Peter’s pumpkin party About 500 people attended Peter Bjornson’s pumpkin party in Gimli the day before Halloween. Manitoba’s Minister of Education Peter Bjomson held his first annual pumpkin party in Gimli at Gimli Park Pavilion Saturday, October 30. There were different kinds of con- tests like a pumpkin carving contest, pumpkin decorating contest, a scarecrow building contest and a costume contest. People donated cakes and prizes for a silent auction which Peter Bjomson, dressed like Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings, coordinated with the help of his assistant Jan Cher- let, dressed like a witch. All the proceeds went to the Heal- ing Garden in the Gimli Health Centre. Peter Bjornson dressed as Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings, while his assistant Jan Cherlet came as a witch.
