Big TV news comes in a series
of small packages this week. For
popeye, one of the most famous
sailors ever, returns to AFRTS.
Popeye, the pipe-smoking, spi-
nach eating knight-of-the-sea will
replace Crusader Rabbit as pro-
gram fills. Each installment runs
about five minutes and 30 seconds.
The other two children’s pro-
grams, Felix the Cat and Mighty
Hercules will stay.
Sunday, January 24, at 5:30
p.m., it’s a U.S. Navy film, “Who
Needs You, Buchanan?” A pilot
on a Navy aircraft carrier re-
marks to the skipper of a De-
stroyer, “Who Needs You, Buc-
hanan?”
When he is forced to bail out
over the ocean a short time later,
he finds that the destroyer not
only rescued him but protects his
carrier from enemy submarines
and intercepts enemy aircraft
long before the reach their target.
On Tuesday, at 6 it’s Air
Power” with “Strike Command”,
the story of teamwork in a unit
made up of Army, Navy, and Air
Force members who are combat
ready.
At 10:30 Tuesday, Ruth Don-
nelly, Ricki Vera and Clancy
Cooper are featured in “Are
Trees People?” It’s the first in-
stallment of Du Pont Cavalcade,
which replaces Coronado 9.
It is a happy day for all when
unpredictable life brings together
an elderly, but active widow, a
retiring policeman and three orp-
han boys.
“Shindig”, in its second install-
ment, presents Billy Kramer, and
The Dakotas as special guest. Also
appearing are Leon Russel, Dick
and Dee Dee, Chris Crosby, Bob
Crosby’s son, The Wellington and
Bobby Sherman.
The Navy Band Concert will be
at 9 p.m. with a whole new format
and some great musical entertain-
ment for all!
