gram. Lieutenant Kennedy is officer in charge of the Naval Security

Planes from the Iceland Aero
Club and the Icelandic Defense
Force will put on an air show at
the Reykjavik Airport Sunday,
August 15, starting at 1 p.m.
The beginning of the show will
feature static displays in the Air-
port building, including mockups
of the sea-air and land rescues.
At 2 p.m., the Air show itself
begins with a group takeoff and
aerobatics by light Icelandic air-
planes. Following this the F-102
Delta Daggers will perform low
speed and high speed passes in
eight and four plane formations.
Also participating will be a
station P2V, a Super-Constella-
tion from VW11, the U6A, and
an SH34J Sikorsky Helicopter
which will demonstrate sea-air-
land rescue techniques, with the
SAR team.
The last part of the show will
be aerobatics by members of the
Iceland Glider Club.
Touring Civic Leaders
Due To Depart Kef
Business and civic leaders from the United States arrived
at Keflavik Airport Wednesday evening on their first leg
of a goodwill tour which will also take them to Greenland
and Labrador.
Official host for the groups is Col. Raymond K. Gallagher,
commander of the 551st Airborne Early Warning and
Control Wing, Otis AFB, Mass.1^
Also traveling with the group is
Col. C. G. Atkinson, commander
of the Bangor Air Defense Sec-
tor, Maine.

Portland, Ore.; Mr. Anker Arne-
son, American Association of Rail-
roads, Duluth, Minn.; Mr. Joe

dent of Bowdoin College, Bruns-
wick, Maine; Dr. Frank Clament,
Dentist, Colorado Springs, Colo.;
Mr. Thom B. Thatcher, president
of the National Kiwanis, Chevy
Chase, Md.; Mr. Bemt Balchen,
civic leader and Arctic explorer,

Acquant Leaders
The purpose of the Arctic Ori-
entation Tour is to acquaint key
civilian community leaders from
the U.S. with countries in the
north, their military environments
and to promote international rela-
tions.
The group is expected to leave
Keflavik today.
While on station, the distingu-
ished guests and aircraft crew
members were divided into two
divisions, one going to the ACW

tion of the Icelandic printers, it
was necessary to publish the Fal-
con Flyer for a brief period of
time.

June Men Of Month
Receive IDF Awards
AIC Gomer C. Jones, L.Cpl. John T. Havelock and John
G. Yurickones, AE3, were awarded certificates July 23
as the Iceland Defense Force “Men of the Month” for
June 1965. The presentation took place in RAdm Ralph
Weymouth’s office at IDF Headquarters.
A native of Wabasha, Minn., Airman of the Month Jones
is presently assigned to the Radar1^
Section of the 57th Fighter-Inter-
ceptor Squadron, Air Forces Ice-
land. He arrived at Keflavik Sept.
14, 1964, after serving with the

Two AF Units
Commandered By
New O-ln-C's
Command changes for two units
to which Air Forces Iceland is a
subordinate organization have oc-
curred over the past several days.
Maj.Gen. Gordon H. Austin is
now commander of the 26th Air
Division, succeeds Maj.Gen. Von
R. Shores, who was reassigned to
SHAPE headquarters in France
and Col. Archie M. Burke suc-
ceeds Brig.Gen. Thomas H. Bee-
son.
U.S. Military Graduate
General Austin is a 1936 grad-
uate of the United States Military
Academy. He completed flying
training at Randolph and Kelly
fields, Tex., in 1938. After an
initial assignment at Bolling
Field, Wash., he was transferred
to Hickham and Wheeler Fields,
Hawaii, in 1940. During the
Japanese attack he was in com-
mand of the 47th Fighter Sq.
wihch was credited with 12 enemy
aircraft destroyed.
General Austin’s later assign-

a member of the old Air Force
Precision Flying Group, the “Red
Devils” in 1949 and 1950.

pon control system of the F-102
Delta Dagger. Airman Jones’
wife, Judith, is living in Minnea-
polis, Minn., with their daughter,
Jennifer Lynn, age 7 months.
Gate Sentry
Lance Corporal Havelock, Mar-
ine of the Month, arrived at Kefla-
vik April 26, after duty with the
2d Reconnaissance Battalion,
Camp LeJeune, N.C. Havelock ser-
ves as gate sentry with the Kefla-
vik Marine Barracks. His home
is in Alliance, Ohio, where he at-
tended Alliance High School. He
was enrolled in Youngstown Uni-
versity, Youngstown, Ohio, before
entering the Marine Corps. Climb-
ing, photography, and writing are
some of the hobbies that occupy
Havelock’s off-duty time.
Search And Rescue
Aviation Electrician Yurickones
earned his selection as Sailor of
the Month with his performance
as an aircrewman in the local
search and rescue unit. He came
to Keflavik Feb. 21, from the
U.S. Naval Station, Philadelphia,
Pa. Yurickones calls St. Clair, Pa.
home and attended Nativity Bless-
ed Virgin Mary High School,
Pottsville, Pa. He has also attend-
ed the University of Scranton,
Scranton, Pa., and plans to make
the U.S. Navy his career.
