In this unposed Signal Corps photo, American soldiers here excitedly inspect the contents of numerous bags of Christmas packages, part
of a huge shipment of holiday gifts which arrived here recently from the U.S. It was not so much what was in the packages that mattered,
though, but rather the fact that it was “something from home.” There is no moment in the life of any GI that can be compared to “Mail Call.”
