the north-west coast of
Iceland (see Fig. and
Table 1, Stations 21-23,
26, 30-33 and 35-40). In
this area catches up to
320 kgs of prawns per
trawling hour were ob-
tained averaging 173
kgs/hour.
A significant catch of
prawns — 100 kgs per
trawling hour — was
also obtained at south-
west Iceland (Station
50), but lack of time
prevented further trials
on this occasion.
Station 1-3 and 5-7
at southwest Iceland
also resulted in good
catches, but these
grounds were previously
known and have already
been exploited.
It is hoped that these
new prawn grounds at
north-west Iceland may
initiate a summer
prawn fishery in this
part of the country, be-
sides being important
in a programme of
prawn tagging which
started in September
1971.
