Dick Haymes
Dick Haymes, sem er sonur amerískra
foréldra, fæddist í Argentínu, ólst upp í
Evrópu og varð frægur sem söngvari í
U.S.A.
Hann var fimmtán ára þegar hann söng
* fyrsta sinn fyrir kaupi, og var hann þá
ekkert sérlega áfjáður í að syngja, því aðal
áhugamál hans var að gerast kvikmynda-
leikari. Hann fór þess vegna til Hollywood
árið 1933, en komst hvergi að og var því
ekki um annað að ræða en að halda áfram
að syngja. Það gekk nú samt ekki of vel
1 fyrstunni, en þegar hann loksins komst
að við hljómsveit Harry James árið 1939,
fór framtíðin að blasa við. Hann var við-
urkenndur sem afbragðs söngvari og þegar
Prank Sinatra hætti hjá Tommy Dorsey
fór Dick þangað. Þegar hann fór þaðan
gerðist hann sjálfstæður söngvari og fór
brátt að leika í kvikmyndum og eru þær
orðnar æði margar kvikmyndirnar, sem
Dick hefur leikið í og má með sannisegjaað
æskudraumur hans hafi orðið að veruleika.
