Every evening there was a fellowship hour in the hall or a
campfire. The programmes in the hall were varied and interesting
as there was so much talent to draw from. Both English and
Icelandic were used; the Icelandic folk songs were enjoyed, recita-
tions in Icelandic were given, papers on various topics were given
by campers.
The closing night was celebrated by a lovely concert, carefully
prepared: among the items was a long paper “Farewell to Camp”
(composed by Kristin Skulason, Vordis Fridfinnsson, and Vigdis
Sigurdson), touching and beautiful, showing deep understanding
of our dreams for the future.
There were forty-five students, as follows: Arborg-Riverton
parish, eighteen; Gimli parish, ten; Argyle parish, ten; Winnipeg,
two; North Dakota, two; Langruth, two; Hayland, one.
I recall the dignified bulletins prepared by Rev. B. A. Bjarna-
son who was then the pastor at Gimli. That service was so willingly
and graciously rendered.
We had no funds to draw from as we opened camp, all the
service was voluntary, everyone staying at camp paid six dollars.
We paid twelve dollars a day as rent for the camp and when all
was paid there were a few dollars left. Some of the food was
donated.
This was twenty-two years ago. Have we seen our dreams
realized? I can only pray that in the coming years we may “in-
crease in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man”.
