This Week’s Mew Movies!
BEYOND THE SEA [ml
For Bobby Darin performing was his life. It kept his heart beating. He
came alive onstage, even when he was near collapse offstage. In Beyond
the Sea, Bobby tells his own story. At age seven, Bobby gets Rheumatic
fever that damages his heart forever. The doctor tells his mother he'll be
lucky to live to the age of fifteen. Modern medicine and determination
keep him alive, his heart's still ticking, and by 20, with the help of his
best friend turned manager and his musical director he's working his way up, from tacky clubs
to performing in Vegas, finally scoring a hit with "Splish Splash''. But Bobby wants more. As
he tells Life Magazine, he wants to be a legend by 25. "Mack the Knife" makes him the star
he's dreamed of becoming but for him this is only the beginning. Stars Kevin Spacey and Kate
Bosworth. Runs 118 min. and rated PG13 for some strong language and a scene of sensuality.
THE LIFE AQUATIC 0
Meet Steve Zissou: legendary underwater explorer, a man known around the
globe for his documentaries about the teeming life beneath the deep blue
sea. These days, life on land isn't going so smoothly for Zissou. His best
friend and long-time partner, Esteban, was recently consumed by a ravenous
jaguar shark. Rumors are starting to spread that he's losing his touch. And
now, out of the blue, comes an Air Kentucky co-pilot named Ned Plimpton
who claims he might, or might not be the long lost son Steve never got to know. Imperious,
egotistical and endearingly off course, Steve Zissou is now ready to make his most epic film to
date-the one in which he will wage vengeance on the jaguar shark, become the father he never
thought he could be, and regain some fleeting sense of his own nobility. Stars Bill Murray, Owen
Wilson, Cate Blanchett. Runs 118 min. and rated R for language, drug use, violence, nudity.
