inn unRRv snap Preparing your Vehicle for an Icelandic Winter
Winter is already at our doors. It is getting cold, the winds are picking up, snow is falling,
and ice is forming on the ground. If you are going to be on the road this winter you might want
to check the tips listed below and make sure you are ready to handle winter face on; you will
not only do your car a favor, but you will also ensure the safety of your passengers. A more
detailed inspection checklist is also available at the Auto Hobby Shop. If you have questions or
need a hand please feel free to ask the friendly professionals at the Auto Hobby Shop, they will
be more than happy to help you out, located in Bldg. 520, ext 7935.
So here we go...
Humber 1. Tires: Inspect sidewall condition and tread depth. Properly inflate to manufacturer’s
recommendations and remember to inspect the spare tire as well. Don’t wait until the first
snowfall to rush over to the NEX Autoport and find out there’s a line ahead of you for tires.
2 Battery: Colder temperatures put a strain on batteries and one in marginal shape will fail
you at the worse possible time. Have a good set of jumper cables or better yet, pick up a bat-
tery booster and carry it with you.
3. Wiper blades/windshield solvent: Install new blades at the beginning of winter and have a
spare set available. Top off windshield solvent tank.
4. Antifreeze: Ensure your vehicle is properly serviced to the correct temperatures and mix-
ture.
5. Emergency brake cable/linkage lubrication: Inspect and lubricate as required.
6. Serpentine or fan belt(s): Inspect for glazing, proper tension and damage.
7 Brakes: Ensure the master cylinder reservoir is at the proper level and the fluid is clear. A
dark color may indicate contamination.
8. Electrical system: Check all lights for proper operation. Inspect connections for corrosion
and proper installation.
9. Exhaust system: Check for leaks and integrity.
10. Heater/air conditioner: Both systems need to be excercised periodically to ensure proper
operation.

Tour Office:
Friday, October 7- LADY”S NIGHT OUT. Departs at 5 pm. What better chance
to escape from the everyday routine of working, cleaning, cooking, than to
take a step back and relax, perhaps at the Blue Lagoon? Come soak in the
warm waters of this World known geothermal spa center. Forget about every-
thing and spoil yourself with a 30minute massage, some relaxing time sitting
in the sauna or simply swimming around the pool for a soul rejuvenating
experience. Every Lady is entities to a treat once in a while and to be spoiled.
Why Not? Come on over to the Tour Office and be one of the first to sign up
because this trip will definitly fill up in a flash!
Saturday, October 22 - FIRST DAY OF WINTER CAVE EXPLORING ADVENTURE.
Departs at 10 am. All athletes and adventure takers pull out your hiking shoes
and warm clothes and sign up for this amazing and rewarding trip. Take on a
challenging and physically demanding adventure hiking 3 hours underground in
one of Iceland’s longest lava-tube caves, Raufarholshellir. The wonderful scenes
and sensations you will receive will be overwhelming to the body and mind,
and you will not forget the wondrous beauties you will experience on this tour.
Sunday, October 22 - WINTER ADVENTURE. Departs at 7:30 am. If you are
not up to the Cave Exploring Adventure tour, maybe you would like to take on
this less challenging tour. You can experience the beauly of Iceland’s majestic
glaciers by ATV or Snow Mobil. You choose.
Yes I’m afraid you will not be able to turn away this time from our exciting and
tempting activities. I know that I will be first in line to sign up for these trips.
