Aim, Focus,
Shoot
Here is a great opportunity for
kids attending the Youth Center.
The Youth Center recently launched
“Imagemakers,” a program that intro-
duces kids to the wonderful world of
photography.
Imagemakers is sponsored by the
Boy and Girls Club of America, for
children ranging from 6 to 9 years of
age. The program teaches basic func-
tions of the camera and how to take
good quality pictures. They experiment
with a range of photography such as: 35
mm, digital, black and white photogra-
phy, self images, and landscapes.
“I think taking pictures is fun...my
favorite thing I learned is how to take
close up pictures,” Jonathon Pegues
said. Kara Witcher thinks Imagemakers
is “cool...We are discovering how to
take pictures, and how to take good
ones. I like taking pictures because ...
you remember them when you grow
up.”
The Youth Center has eight cameras
for the children to use. The kids take
local pictures of landscape, friends, and
anything they find interesting. Next,
they use image mixing software to
enhance their photos. They also have a
chance to get creative by adding a silly
effects to their shots. The main purpose
of this program is to show children
how photography can become a career.
They will learn how pictures are used
in advertising and how they effect busi-
nesses.
Participant’s work will be entered
in the Boys and Girls Club of America
Local Photography contest by March
10. On this day, all pictures will be
available for public viewing at the
Youth Center. All are encouraged and
invited to come over between 9 am -
2:30 pm and help select the photo that
will progress to the national level of
the contest. For more information call

Tip of the Week
In the winter months it is particulary impor-
tant to keep your windows clean of snow and
ice. There are times when this may be difficult to
control since Mother Nature is unpredictable.
When you have snow on your windshield, you
should brush, not scrape, your windows clean.
If there is ice,
scrape it off with
an ice scraper.
Apply light
pressure so you
don’t scratch
your window.
In the morn-
ing, you should
start your car 15
minutes earlier,
and set defrost
on medium range
so you don’t heat
the windshield
up too quickly.
Some very important things to remember are:
•NEVER use hot water to de-ice. It will
crack your windshield.
•NEVER use cold water - it will freeze before
you can get the ice removed.
•NEVER use Windex. It will freeze as well.
•USE a window de-icer if available
Remember to clean off all windows before
driving. IT’S THE LAW!

There will be a scavenger hunt in search for the hidden

special someone, family members back home, or even
for yourself. Don’t wait too long to sign up for this Mar.
25 trip, depart at 10 am and returns at 4 pm. Cost is
only $10. If you still have the shopping bug and want to
stretch your legs with an enjoyable stroll in downtown
Reykjavik, sign up for the Mar. 31st tour. This trip will
introduce you to the capital and help you get your bear-
ings.
Eligible patrons can bring authorized guests on Wind-
breaker trips when space is available, but guests pay full
tour prices when applicable. Guests must be over age 18.

signments in your career.
