Major changes in radio, television programming
result of A-F-R-T-S survey of listeners, viewers •
"Hawaii Five-O" has been voted
the top TV show at Keflavik, and
AFTV's "Game of the Week" will
move to Sunday afternoon as AFRTS
dresses up to swing into its new
schedules,beginning Sunday, April
4.
These are only two of the re-
sults of the' 1971 AFRTS Survey
recently concluded by the radio
and television stations.
Next Thursdayevening, April 1,
at 8, AFRTS Keflavik will pre-
sent a simulcast program over the
radio and TV outlets to tell its
listeners and viewers what is
happening as a result of the
survey.
The survey indicated the best-
liked music on the NATO base is
"Middle-of-the-Road" and "Easy
Listening" music. Next in the
order of pref-
erences is folk
music. Light
rock was fourth,
with country
music fifth.
Hard, or "Acid"
rock placed
sixth, with
classical, jazz
and big-band
music following
in that order.
Bobby Troup
and Bolero Time
will return to the filing cabinet
as the most disliked programs on
radio.
Weekend radio, the most crit-
icized, will liven its schedule
with more locally-produced pro-
grams. Music for the Soul, and
Grand Ole Opry will drop from the
schedule.
TV's most controversial topic
was movies, their repeating, and
the times they are shown. AFTV
is trying to find a way to satis-
fy everyone as much as possible
on the movie subject. Only four
new movies arrive each week for
showing, and if these four films
were shown only once, AFTV would
have to show six of its older
library movies each week, rapidly
depleating the library, and re-
quiring frequent film repeats.
Television's library programs
have been placed in a regular
planned rotating schedule so no
particular show will repeat in a
single year.
Programs for children's view-
ing have been slated for the time
slot from 5 to 8 p.m. and TV is
adding a half-hour live inform-
ation show Tuesday evenings at 8
before the Tuesday Night Movie.
A female voice will be heard
on TV with the starting of the
new schedule. She will act as a
host for the afternoon time slots
from sign-on until the news show
at seven. Among her chores will
be TV's version of radio's Calen-
dar of Events, movie and tele-
vision programs for the evening.
JOC Mike McCall will moderate
