New service for new arrivals
to BuPers control
Family Services Center here Monday
Naval Station Keflavik's Family Services Center will begin opera-
tion Monday.
The mission of this center is to provide, at one central location,
assistance to new arrivals with their special problems and to help in
obtaining the personal services ------------------------
they require at the time of their
arrival.
The center is located in the
Public Works building, T-170, ad-
jacent to the Housing Office.
Volunteers from the NCO Wives,
CPO Wives and Officers Wives Clubs
will provide staffing of the cen-
ter. Hours of operation are from
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednes-
day and Friday. The telephone,
Ext. 5193, will be manned during
these times.
To get assistance or informa-
tion concerning station services
and facilities, or to find out
who to contact for specific prob-
lems, call or visit the center.
Some assistance is also planned
for those departing Keflavik by
providing brochures and informa-
tion on other duty stations.
ACTION LINE SPEAKS OUT, from Page 4
The Bureau of Naval Personnel
added 12 more ratings to its
tralized assignment procedures.
This is another step in the
bureau's assumption of all as
signments of petty officers and
designated strikers, hopefully to
bring duty assignments more in
line with individuals' duty pre-
ferences.
Effective June 1, the ratings
added to the list of those under
bureau control will be: AK, AME,
AS, IC, LI, MR, PC, PR, QM, RD,
SM and HM in NECs 8402, 8403,
8417, 8432, 8452, 8482, 8484 and
8498. All other HMs can expect
centralized assignment procedures
beainnina October 1.
Centralized assignment means
that Navymen in bureau - con-
troled ratings have been removed
from the normal Seavey/Shorevey
system. This could cause shorter
sea tours in some cases during
the transitional period. For
others, it could mean slight de-
lays in rotation back to the
States.
In line with these steps, the
bureauhas placed responsibilities
on individuals to assure them of
consideration of their duty pre-
ferences .
When effective, personnel in
the bureau-controled ratings
should fill out and submit duty
preference cards. For details on
e cards, and further informa-
on on the centralized assign-
nts, contact your personnel
office.
service. To go one step further,
wives and female guests stay away
and the clubs deteriorate to a
young man's drinking hall. Is
that what we want for our friends
and families? Certainly not!
Each member of a club accepts
certain and definite responsibil-
ities as a patron. Besides the
sensible actions of being a gen-
tleman at all times, the patron
must encourage others to act ac-
cordingly. Especially important
is the execution of responsibili-
ties assumed each time a member
entertains club guests. Do we
honestly understand and make an
effort to meet these obligations?
There is a continual flow o€
information to servicemen around
the world acceeding to their de-
sires to be treated as individuals
rather than numbers and bodies.
If we are to continue to press
these demands for more individual
treatment and freedom, then we
must exercise what we preach. Re-
sponsibility is not a one - way
street. Let our conduct at all
times reflect that we are capable
of assuming the responsibility
granted us.
In a language perhaps better
understood by the minority, here
is CAL's good word: "Shape up —
or — keep out!"
