Food Service tumbles to fifth
Food Service tumbled to fifth piece, dropping four games to NavFac,
who moved into third place with the four-game sweep on Monday's Amer-
ican Bowling League.
The two remaining number one
three to one sets to remain tied.
Skip Hagelund rolled the night's
high of a 214/628 series to lead
CommSta to three wins over AFI.
Henry Elliott was AFI's leader,
with a 530 set.
Shierff Brown had a 211 game
and John Flemma a 559 series as
57th FIS took three from fourth
place BOQ. High kegler for the
"Q" team was Ron Rodzik with a
557 set.
Team captain Vem Johnson was
NavFac's heavy as he hit the wood
for a 537 series and led his team
to four solid wins over Food Ser-
vice knocking the losers from a
three way tie for first to fifth
place. Cass Cabacungan was high
for Food Service, rolling a 496
for the night.
John McCarron led his Black
Knights squad to four wins over
Weapons by bowling a 581 series.
Jim Stark rolled Weapon's high ser-
ies, a 495.
Paced by Jan Tlush with a 528
teams, CommSta and 57th FIS took
set, AMD swept four from NSGA.
Keith Fowell rolled a 465 to lead
the losers.
Another four game sweep was
made by Rockville, whose Don Po-
teat rolled a 538 set, as the
Rockville squad gained a place in
the standings, eighth to seventh
at the expense of Air Ops. Frank
Ivey had a 518 series for Air Cps.
OWC summer bowling

Wives Club) summer bowling league

Marines spoil
Harder, ComFAi^
Fifth place Marines broke three
league records during a clean
sweep over ComFair, despite Tom
Harder's 649 series.
He recorded the second highest
series of the year with games of
230, 202, and 217 adding up to a
big 649 series. However the Mar-
ines still managed to hold close
together and take four straight
games. Charlie Wilson was high
with a 564 series. Close behind
was Don Vial lace with a 562, Lew
King rolled a 553, John Cooney a
513, and Larry Hamblin with a 482.
The:Marines broke a one game team
high with a 1,065 pins. After
the end of the third game they
had set another record of the
year with 3,049 pins. During
these games they had three keg-
lers go over the 550 nark and fouj
hit over the 500 mark.
AFI takes volleyball crown,
Supply No.2 finishes second
Gas station now
open on Sundays
The NEX Gas Station will now
be open every Sunday from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m.
It has been decided that more
and more motorists are traveling
on weekends now that the weather
is getting nice. To keep up with
the constant demand, the gas sta-
tion will stay open the extra day
for the convenience of its pa-
trons .
Although the station will be
open Sunday, no mechanical re-
pairs and no tire repairs will be
done. Patrons can purchase gas,
oil, fan belts, wax and other
products of this nature.
'Weekday and Saturday hours
will remain unchanged.
Cub Pack to meet
Cub Scouts and their parents
are reminded about the pack meet-
ing, Monday, May 24 at the ele-
mentary school cafetorium.
Activities will start at 6:45
AFI volleyed to the winners' circle by defeating Supply No. Two Sun-
day, May 9, in the volleyball tournament.
The tournament started with 14 teams and all were tough competi-
tors, but AFI proved to be the hardest playing team.
A good crowd was on hand to
cheer for their favorite, includ-
ing the Commanding Officer of the
Naval Station, Capt. Lloyd H.
Thomas. The AFI and Supply No.
Two teams battled for the champ-
ionship, with AFI coming out on
top. Picked as most valuable
player of the tournament was AFI's
Herbert Long.
The tournament produced an All
Star team that consisted of Her-
bert Long and Wilbur Ray from AFI,
Ken Luke (57th FIS), Glen Holland
(Supply No. Two), Gary Witcher
(Air Ops), Joe Brito (Rockville),
Danny Bourgeous (CFK), and Vem
Chewning (NCS). This All-Star
team was just to show recognition
of the other outstanding players
in the tournament.
Trophies for all the volleyball
leagues were presented by Capt.
Thomas after the tournament's fin-
al game. Capt. Thomas was caught
by surprise when it was announced
after he had presented all the
trophies, that he also had won a
trophy. It was presented to Capt.
Thomas on behalf of the recreation
department,and basepersonnel whom
he had given so much of his time
to sports on the naval station.
Worms to race
for speed title
The NATO base annual worm race
is to be held Saturday afternoon,
June 5.
The races will be in Mouse
Gym at 2. Contestants may enter
their worms in one of three cate-
gories.
The classes will be two inch,
four inch, and six inch and over.
No stimulants may be used. The
worm track may be reserved by th^
contestants by calling Ext. 519J®
