• YNCS Thomas A. Daniels was
presented the Navy Commendation
Medal for meritorious service as
the Assistant to the Administra-
tive Officer from March 1969 to
March 1971. The citation went on
to praise Chief Daniels for his
work as manager of the CPO Mess.
In addition to the Medal, Chief
Daniels was presented the Free-
doms Foundation Award for his es-
say entitled "Freedom - Privilege
or Obligation." The plaque signi-
fied an outstanding achievement
in bringing about a better under-
standing of the American way of
life. Chief Daniels departed
Tuesday for new duties in the Bu-
;au of Naval Personnel in Wash-
ton, D. C.
DK1 Robert E. Devalt was
presented the Navy Achievement
Medal for services aboard the
hospital ship Sanctuary in South-
east Asia from February 1970 to
February 1971. He was the Assist-
ant Disbursing Officer and the
senior disbursing clerk aboard
during the period. His job was
more difficult because he handled
the disbursing services for the
ship's staff, crew and patients
from all branches of the military.
He is now serving in the naval
station's disbursing office.
• DT3 Albert Neri was also
presented the Navy Achievement
Medal forhls services in NavSta's
dental office from September to
December 1970. Although inexper-
ienced in the patient records
area, he demonstrated exceptional
knowledge and dedication in im-
proving patient records and the
patient handling procedures.
• The Navy Achievement Medal
also was presented to EN1 Raymond
H. Parker for his services while
assigned to the aircraft carrier
Franklin D. Roosevelt. The award
period was from January through
July 1970. During this time, he
maintained all assigned equipment
at maximum operational efficiency
contributing greatly to the read-
tess of the ship and the morale
the crew by the continued a-
llability of the liberty boats.
