They bring it, store it,
distribute & discard it
Have you ever wondered how everything that is
brought into the base get3 here, who does it, how
it is distributed?...Aren't you glad someone has
though?
Supply's Materiel Division has the responsibi-
lity of handling, transporting, storing, distri-
buting and disposing of all supplies that are
brought into Iceland for use by the naval station
and the tenant activities.
Under Lt. David E. Hilton, this division is
directly linked to the entire supply department
which is under the leadership of Cdr. Robert W.
Davis.
The division is divided up into four separate
branches. The largest of these is the Traffic
Branch. They are responsible for receiving all
goods that come through the Military Sealift Com-
mand and all air freight shipments. They also
handle the Water Terminal from where all personal
vehicles are shipped and received. Also included
in their duties are the receiving, packing and
shipping of household goods and all transporta-
tion for distribution.
The Storage Branch is,as its name implies, for
the storage of all supplies and is divided into
four principal sections. These include aviation
stores, for the supplies needed by aircraft; gen-
eral stores; cold stores, which handles the re-
frigerated products such as meats for the mess
halls; and finally dry provisions.
The next step in the program is the Retail Out-
let Branch. Included in this is the ServMart,
small stores and a store for automotive parts.
The last branch of the division is disposal
which handles discarded equipment.
