CommSta Tigers cop
Little League crown
Led by the brilliant one-hit pitching of John Hyman and capitaliz-
ing on mistakes, the NavCommSta Tigers rolled to a 10-0 victory over
the C.P.O. Cardinals Monday to capture the NATO Base Little League
Championship. --------------------------------------
The Tigers emerged as winners
in the play-offs of the top two
teams in each league by scoring
three straight wins in the double
elimination playoffs.
Monday night, however, John
Hyman was the big star as he
struck out 12 men, walked five
and hit one batter in the windy
title clash. He was one out away
from a no-hitter when Cardinal
catcher Bill Ollie slammed a 2-2
pitch back through the middle to
spoil Hyman's no-hit bid. Hyman
then got Chuck Newgent to bounce
back to the mound and the game
was over.
The Tigers opened the game with
Jeff Rice started on the mound
for the Cardinals but was the
victim of poor supporto He gave
up six hits.walked six and struck
out five. Ron Hicks worked the
last one and two-thirds innings
and struck out five.
Last night, the Little League
Banquet was held at the 56 Club
with each team receiving a par-
ticipation trophy and the big
championship trophy going to the
NavCommSta Tigers.
