KEFLAVIK SCENE
A note of caution again opens this week's chapter of the Kef-
lavik Scene. As the hours of darkness increase and the weather
turns more severe, the hazards to young children outside will in-
crease. Children have been observed wandering from parked cars
and homes when left unattended. One three-year-old was found at
night standing in the middle of the busy road near House Gym.
Another was found wandering in the 56 Club parking lot. An eight-
year-old had recently suffered eye injuries when playing at the
station dump, in the vicinity where trash is burned. An aerosol
can exploded near his face. These are not isolated incidents,
they occur frequently. Parents are urged to exercise proper
supervision of their children and to know their whereabouts at
all times.
What nearly was a family tragedy last year turned into a heart-
warming drama to save the ) ife of a baby bom ten weeks premature-
ly. The combined efforts of a
VP-49 plane crew and the sta-
tion hospital saved the in-
fant's life, and today, she is
growing and growing and getting
fat like all babies should. Her
story will appearin next week's
White Falcon as reporter Terry
Carroll visits the home of Air,
Force SSgt. and Mrs. Jesse Di
minguez fora birthday party am
reunion between several members
of the crew who are back with
VP-49 this year, and little
Lainie Dominguez. She will be
the center of attention today,
but it will be several more years before she can really under-
stand the story of her fight for life. Lainie is one year old.
Tomorrowis Air Force Family Day aboard the base. All Air Force
members and their families are invited to Andrews Theater for the
opening program at 10 a.m. Then at 11, the 57th Fighter Intercep-
■ry
m
naxq
tor Squadron will open its operations and maintenance facilities
for defense force members and families to view aircraft and equip-
ment static displays until 2 p.m.
The Air Force is looking for highly motivated career-minded
male airmenin grades Sgt. through MSgt. for military training in-
structor duty at Chanute, Keesler, Lowry and Sheppard Air Force
Bases. Selected NCOs will receive a three-year stabalized tour
with a possible 12-month extension. Applicants must be a high
school graduate (or equivalent), and rated in the top 40 percent
on the last three airman performance reports. Keflavik NCOs are

The naval station has established a commercial bus service for
the noon hour on all regular school days. It leaves at 25-minute

ing club at 12:40. It runs to the Navy Exchange via the BEQ and.
B0Q areas, and departs the exchange 15 minutes after the Viking
