ore questions
and answers
Here are more questions anc
answers on the new enlisted uni-
forms.
Q. Was any thought given to
having a single-breasted uniform?
If so, why was it not adopted?
A. Yes. A single-breasted uni-
form was one of the choices in
the poll. However, it did not
get a big play and adoption of
such a uniform would require long
periods of design and testing.
Q. What part did Admiral Zum-
walt play in promoting the change
in uniform? Is this his "modern-
ization" program?
A. Admiral Zumwalt not only
ordered the uniform poll to be
taken, but he has been most re-
ceptive to change where it was
clearly desired by the majority.
He is convinced that the time is
long past for the Navy to follow
its sister-services in adopting
one uniform for all, regardless
of rank and has been instrumental
in the furthering of this change.
Q. When was the lasttime there
was a change to the style of en-
listed uniforms? Chiefs? Offi-
cers?
A. This is the first major
ange to the enlisted uniform
,ce the beginning of the Navy,
efs' and officers' uniforms
ave been unchanged since 1918.
WHITE FALCON
Envious bus stop ‘writes’
open letter to residents
Dear Sir:
Just two weeks ago there was a
picture of a friend of mine in
the White Falcon. It showed a
group of young children with him,
and a caption reading, "We've got
the cleanest bus stop in town."
I really had to admire the
children for the great care that
they have shown my friend, bus
stop 006. But now, I feel the
other side of the story should be
told.

the street from the elementary
school. Many concerned parents
rely on my protection of their
children during the cold winter
months. I stand proudly each day,
disregarding the wind, rain, snow
and harsh weather that tries to
tear my boards and peel my paint.
1 The only thing that I ask in
return for my services is an oc-
casional paint job. But the
children who use me, also abuse
me. I have become a trash can

next time it is

give it a new

ment. If that
isnot possible,
maybe those who
are guilty will
get pretty cold.
