Gayle Ehlers (R) gets ready for the skiing season.
Ski buffs sign up
Now that the chilly weather is
ling along and the ski season
opening, the attention of many
efense force members is turning
to the Keflavik Ski Club.
The ski club here is available
for any defense force member,
their dependents, and the members
of the U.S. Embassy in Reykjavik.
In about its sixth year, the
club has been on trips to Austria
and Norway, lasting anywhere from
one to two weeks. This year, the
club officers wish to get some
scheduled skiing parties to Scot-
land over long weekends. So far,
theyhave abouteight trips planned
for this season, not including
their scheduled trips to Akurey-
ri, every other weekend.
Their next skiing 'venture'
will take place over Labor Day
weekend. Departing from the Vik-
ing at 6 p.m., Friday, the skiing
party will go to the Summer Ski
School in Kerlingafjoll, about
125 miles from Reykjavik. They
will return about 10 p.m. Monday,
Sept. 6. The price will be $45
per person, which includes trans-
portation and a room in the ski
lodge at the school. You need
not be a member to participate in
any of the club’s skiing parties.
If you don't think that you
can join the Ski Club or go on
any of their trips because you
don't have your outfit with you
or because of financial problems,
that's all the more reason for
you to look into the ski club.
As club president, Cdr. A. John
Hyman says, "Basically, we can
get you into a whole outfit for
