Fire Prevention Week ends
Monday concluded the naval
station's week-long observance of
Fire Prevention Week.
Including displays given by
the naval station's fire depart-
ment along with it's week-long
open house, Fire Prevention Week
proved to be interesting as well
as rewarding.
Fire Prevention Week is the
one week set aside by Presiden-
tial proclamation to call our at-
tention to the dangers of fire,
how fires can be prevented and
some simple guidelines we can all
follow in reporting and fighting
a fire.
More than 12,000 lives are
lost annually In the United States
alone because of carelessness and
ignorance of fire sfaety rules.
This shocking total can be re-
duced drastically with a little
prudence, thought and if special
and simple instructions are o-
beyed.
If these measures are taken we
can all prevent these unnecessary
losses from occuring.
These children make up the Sparky Fire Department. This unit con-
sists of youngsters appointed fire wardens for their respective
classes. They get a fire warden kit consisting of a badge, certif-
icate of membership and handbook. Members are (1 to r, first row),
Kenneth Rongey, Jacqueline Myrann, Mary Brink, Laurie Norman, Nich-
olas Lueras, (second row), Darryl Killpatrick, Steven King, Lar.
Nykoruk, Bradley Swink, (third row), Don Buck, Steven Gaines, Kev:
Brink and Fireman Magnus Gudmundsson.
