Weekend sports on AFRTS Sports on AFTV Saturday, November 23 Channel 8 will present Once Up- on A Wheel, which will preempt Roller Games, at 1:30 p.m. Hosted by Paul Newman, this special blends music, documen- tary and entertainment in the world of auto racing. Filmed at race tracks in the United States and abroad, it features an all star cast. The show is divided into four parts — the man, the machine, the spectator and the race. At 2:21 watch Pro Bowlers Tour from the Imperial Lanes in To- ledo, Ohio. The final round of the $60,000 Buckeye Open will be covered by Chris Schenkel and Billy Welu. And coming your way at 3:30 will be the CBS Golf Classic from the Firestone Country ClubinAk— ron, Ohio. Sunday, November 24 At 1:30 Grambling Football Highlights will present the Gram- bling vs. Tennessee State game. The first game of the World Series, between Pittsburgh and Baltimore, from the Memorial Sta- dium in Baltimore, can be seen at 3. This Week in Pro Football will bring highlights of all games as well as the Cleveland-Oakland telecast. Sports AFRS Saturday will bring the South- ern Califomia-Notre Dame Game. Game time will be at 6:30 p.m. At 8 p.m. Sunday the Wash- ington Redskins take on the Kan- sas City Chiefs. Pick the Winners is a weekly football prognostication prowess tester run each week by AFRS' Sportsworld and AFTV. Each Monday the results of the weekend college and professional football games are published a- 8 All-Stars prepare for District tourney Practice makes perfect, so the NATO base All-Star football team is busy practicing for the First Naval District tournament. Despite wind and rain, prac- tices are going smoothly according to coach Jim Smith. There are still several practice dates and some rigid training before the team departs for Portsmouth, N.H. on Nov. 7. The tournament will be a double elimination affair so a team that loses twice will be dropped from further action. A pre-tournament meeting for coaches, officials and the tournament committee will be held Nov. 8 to decide pairings and game times. Smith says his team is eagerly looking forward to testing their ability against teams competing in the 1ND championship. And if hard work and practice means the difference, Keflavik could have the edge. long with the ballots for the next week's contest. Floto floats to keg tourney crowj^ A smashing 682 scratch serie^^^ in the singles competition by Brad Floto highlighted the wind- up of the third annual Keflavik Bowling Association Tournament last weekend at Arctic Bowl. The high set also claimed the high handicap series award for Floto, a 706. Runner-up in both scratch and handicap segments of the singles was Gary Bentley with 626/653. Skip Hagelund and John Wisno- sky captured the doubles scratch title with a pinfall of 1146, while Russ Sane and Bill Belvin were tops with a handicap score of 1221. Runners-up in both cat- egories were Tim Bestenheider and Tex Aylor with 1142 scratch and 1184 handicap. The coveted all-events title for total pins from singles, dou- bles and team competition, w^^^k to John Wisnosky with a scral^^^B 1756 pins and Rich Kovach witl^^^^ handicap 1874. Kovach's total topped Russ Sane by only one pin. Runner-up to Wisnosky in the scratch competition was Gary Bent- ley's 1752. These champs join the scratch and handicap team winners Hage- lund, Wisnosky, Don Corbitt, John Wuerpel and Tom Harder listed in last week's White Falcon. AMD takes over first in Tues. IM A first-place tie was broken in Tuesday night's National IM bowling competition as AMD swept four games from Supply No. 2 (in third place) while Supply No. 1 squeaked by Recreation, taking three games. Larry Adams and Bob Kauffman's steady bowling kept AMD out front for their four-game set. Supply No. 1 managed to take three games from a determined Recreation squad as Lee Kasting led with a 578 series and Ray Rich- ardson scored a 529. Only three pins separated the teams at the completion of play.
