The White Falcon - 05.11.1971, Blaðsíða 10
The winter Intramural basketball season got underway this week with
29 teams entered in the pre-season tournament. Single elimination
play continues through Sunday with the championship game set for 1
p.m.
All-Stars leave for 1ND competition
Hampered by weather, the All-
Star football team had to prac-
tice any place available in pre-
paring for its trip to Ports-
mouth, N.H. to compete in the
FirstNaval District championship.
After playing against each
other during the regular season,
the All-Star team gets together
something that could be tragic to
the other teams, and thatfs a real
All-Star team. Most of the play-
ers being unfamiliar with each
other's moves, timing has been
the big problem in developing any
consistency.
After being used to playing on
an 80 yard field with a 20 yard
first down, the team willbe play-
ing on a 60 yard field, with a 15
yard first in Portsmouth. With
the field 25 feet narrower, also,
there will be considerably less
manuevering room for pass receiv-
ers and kick returners.
The 17 man squad left yester-
day and will be gone a week in
quest of the 1ND Crown.
Head Coach Jim Smith covering plays the All-Star
team will use in competition.
