.G-I Bill info
for interest
There are more than two mil-
lion veterans now in school on
the G-I Bill, and there will be
more next year.
James Taaffe, Director of Edu-
cation for the Veterans Admini-
stration, says G-I Bill enroll-
ment continues to "climb like
mad. Every time we look at the
enrollment figures, our projec-
tions go up."
Over 60 percent of those cur-
rently enrolled are attending
college. But that's only one way
to‘take advantage of the program.
Under the G-I Bill, vets can also
draw allowances for vocational or
technical schooling; flight
training; farm cooperative train-
ing; high school and apprentice-
ship or on-the-job training in
skills like police work, build-
ing, electronics and auto mechan-
ics .
The Veteran's Administration
is stressing apprenticeship pro-
grams now because it considers
hem a good means for cutting
own the high unemployment among
veterans in the 20 to 29 years of
age bracket. High unemployment
is one of the three factors that
the Administration cites for in-
creased G-I Bill enrollment. The
other two are: The higher allow-
ances voted by Congress in 1970;
and a publicity campaign to in-
form veterans of all the benefits
available to them.
