Brunswick's wide receiver gets behind one of Keflavik's defensive
backs for another bomb which handed the NATO Base All-Stars their
second loss in the 1st Naval District Touch Football Championship
by a 20-14 score. Penalties were instrumental in Keflavik's first-
game loss to Brunswick, 13-6, in the Portsmouth, N.H. tourney. The
All-Stars shut out Davisville, 27-0, for their only win. Newport,
R.I., was the tournament winner.

BASE ALL STARS 72 - IR 59
Vern Chewning and Doug Nelson
led the All Stars to victory over
the Reykjavik IR Club last Satur-
day with 23 and 20 points, re-
spectively. For the visitors,
Christian Jourdsson had 18. Score
at halftime was 34-25, All Stars.
LADY ALL-STARS 23 - IR LADIES 21
Barbara Fredericks was the he-
roine of the hour as she hooked
in a desperation shot with one
second remaining to win the game.
The score was tied at the end of
each of the first three quarters.
Barbara had 10 points for the All
Stars while Gloria Sansson had 8
for the visitors.
57TH 54 - AFI 53
57th FIS topped AFI in over-
time as Gordon Arnold was the he-
ro of the hour. Fouled with one
second remaining and his team be-
hind by two points. Gordon sank
both free throws to send it into
overtime. Terry Rowson led 57th
with 15 while Rusty Loch had 20
for AFI.
BIG ORANGE 57 - AIR OPS 56
Strong Big Orange got their
first scare as Air Ops held them

to a 57-56 win, and they missed
two shots to win it in the last
five seconds. Jerry Egbring (15),
Bill Belmear (14) and Vern Chew-
ning (11) were in double figures
for the winners while Jerry Wit-
cher had 19 and Jim Henthorn and
Rob Hob scored 11 for Air Ops.
The 31-25 Orange halftime lead
was too much for Air Ops to over-
come .

JSSGA Cager Named
Player of the Week
Vern Kingery of NSGA led his
team to two victories with 20
points against VP-49 and 14 mark-
ers against Air Ops. Vern hits
consistently on an overhead shot
and also drives with the best of
them when the occasion arises. A
native of Omontrose, Ill., he is
competing in his fourth league at
Keflavik. Participating in base-
ball, basketball and track in his
high school days, Vern was an All
Conference performer two years on
the hardwood and also an all star
pitcher in diamond action.
