placement of a two-day old

having to be replaced seven or
eight times within a year...on
one automobile; or rims which had
to be replaced after the vehicle
had been taken over huge rocks.
Of course all maintenance on base
vehicles is not caused by vehicle
abuse.
Vehicles have to be serviced
at regular intervals to perform
preventive maintenance checks.
The servicing is done according
to the manufacturers' specifica-
tions and the amount of use the
automobile has had.
This brings us to one of the
main functions of the Transporta-
tion Department...maintenance on
base vehicles. Of the 500 base
vehicles here, 70 are waiting to
be serviced by the 11 civilian
and 25 military mechanics.
