Reformed drinkers assist alcoholics in rehabilitation
The first alcoholic rehabili-
tation program associated with a
naval hospital is underway at the
Philadelphia Naval Hospital.
The program will have facili-
ties to treat 10-15 patients at a
time, with a recovered alcoholic
working as a full-time counselor
under the supervision of the hos-
pital's neuro-psychiatric depart-
ment.
By July, the Navy plans to es-
tablish similar programs in con-
nection with 14 other naval hos-

habilitation program, which
ready includes two alcohol
habilitation centers and an in-
formal referral network.
The centers, at Long Beach,
Calif., and Little Creek, Va.,
can each handle 70-75 patients.
The referral network is composed
of recovered alcoholics who have
made themselves available to
their commands to help their
shipmates.
Officials said people inter-
ested in serving in the referral
network should write to the Di-
rector of the Alcohol Abuse Con-
trol Program (Bureau of Naval
Personnel, Pers-PC-6), Washington
D.C.
Five games open
Little League sked
The 1972 NATO base Little
League season kicks-off tomorrow
with an opening day ceremony and
a schedule of five ball games.
At 9:30 a.m., the entire
league of 150 players will assej^
ble at the new Little Lea^|
field, located between the Chapel
and the Commissary, to recite the
Little League pledge. The first
game will start at 10 a.m. with
the traditional first ball being
tossed out by Rear Adm. John K.
Beling. Other games slated for
tomorrow will start at 12-2-4-6
p.m.
Board elected
to run FRA club
Joel Johnson has been elected
chairman of the board of govern-
ors of the Fleet Reserve Associa-
tion club for fiscal year 1973.
He and the other governors -
Bill Morrell, Bill Remley, Tony
Garza and "Bud" Deal - are res-
ponsible for club operations for
FRA Branch 255.
