Bob McDermott al- lowed only two hits in each game as he pitched his team to the title and estab- lished them as the team to beat. He struck out 18 in the two games. Randy Spillers got more than one hit in each game. The 57th FIS Black Knights came out of the loser’s bracket to defeat COM- FAIRKEF 8-2 and 17-3 in the finals of the 16-team Pre-Season Slowpitch Tourney. Grindy took a 2-0 lead in the first in- ning on base hits by Joe Spiechs, Tom Bonnell and Gil Covey. Det. 1 tied the score in the fifth on "Frenchy" Jacque's and "Peachy" Cream’s base hits. Nobody scored until the tenth as pitchers Jack McLavrin and Jim Tabor kept the hits scattered. Four teams undefeated Four teams are undefeated after two days of action in the National Slowpitch Softball League. COMFAIRKEF, NSGA, Det. 1 and Comptroller led the parade as Bill Stove, Comptroller; Bill Burns, COMFAIR- KEF; Jose Kutzera, NSGA; Joshua Denni- son, NSGA; Randy Williams, NSGA; and Tony Felton, High School, are leading the hitters. The Knights took a 12-2 lead and, despite the loss of pitcher Jack Davis, who had his eye on the game too well, they maintained the lead until the end. COMFAIRKEF came back, but it was too little, too late for the Ambassadors. The High School, aided by a 54-year- old rookie pitcher and the big bat of Randy Spillers, swept the pre-season Intermediate Tourney in three straight games, defeating AIMD 8-4, Marines 11-1 and 57th FIS 16-6. Randy batted in 15 runs in the three games. Doug Rautio, at short stop, was outstanding while all the H.S. batters had a field day. 57th came in second, defeating NSGA 10-0 and VP-5 8-7. Spillers selected Randy Spillers was chosen player of the week for his heroics in the weekend playoff action. Randy went 5/6 in the Fastpitch Tourney as the Independents won 15-1 over 57th FIS and 4-0 over NSGA. In the Intermediate action, Randy went 9/11 including four triples and three homers while batting 15 runs in three games. But there is one way customers can help save it be- fore it gets to their homes or work areas. The station procures its electric power from the Government of Iceland. The maximum capacity of our converter (a device used to change 50 cycle to 60 cycle) is 8,600 kilowatts. The sta- tion's current work day peak load is 9,200 kilowatts, way above the maximum our converter can carry. In order to meet the demand, one of our generators, which can produce a max- imum of 1,250 kilowatts, has to be placed in service. The fuel consumption of the engine is 90 gallons per hour. At an average of 11 hours per work day, the amount of fuel consumed is 990 gal- lons or $386 per work day. For 22 working days each month, this would amount to $8,400 per month. If everyone scheduled their chores to lighten the load at the generating plant during the peak hours, the station would not have to run the generator. The utilities fuel consumption would be eliminated, and the possibilities of brownouts or blackouts would be reduced. Here's how we can do it: 1. If humanly possible, we should not run electrical equipment at peak hours— especially things like heaters, motors, floodlights, electronic equipment (in- cluding computers) and any intermittent- ly high consumption equipment. 2. Users should schedule electrical tests for off-hours. 3. Personnel must be conservative in using lights and home appliances (dish- washers, clothes dryers/washers, elec- tric ovens, and clothes irons) at peak hours. Station peak hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each work day. metics case $5; Tourister suitcase 22", $5 (needs lock fixed); size 9 women's shoes, like new, $5/pair. Ground poncho $8; albums $l/each.
