Dan Bart- lett (Bob Hope) is a TV personality who is accused of a murder while he is taking a vacation from his wife (Eva Marie Saint) at his ranch in Phoenix. 100 min. B. ELVIS ON TOUR— Musical (G). Interspaced with pre-performance shots, excerpts from his appear- ances on the Ed Sullivan Show are pictures of his family and photos taken while he was in the Army. The picture tries to bring us the real Elvis. 93 min. C. - HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER — Western (R). Clint Eastwood rides into a town that is terrified of a killer who is due to be released from jail soon. Despite the fact that Eastwood is a killer and rapist, the townspeople ask him to save the town. 105 min. (The cynical treatment of Eastwood’s rape episodes could be offensive to some.) P. AMERICAN GRAFITTI— Comedy(PG). A story about teenagers in the early 60s, the twilight of Ameri- can innocence, before drugs, Vietnam, assassina- tions and political protests. 110 min. E. MAGNUM FORCE — Action Adventure (R). In San Francisco unconvicted, but known, criminals fall victim to an executioner dressed as a policeman. Clint Eastwood is a detective assigned to find the killer. His investigation leads him to four policemen and his own supervisor. 123 min. F. THE OUTFIT— Action Drama (PG). Robert Duvall and his brother rob a mafia bank by mistake. Duvall goes to prison but his brother is killed by the "outfit" in revenge for the bank caper. Upon release from prison, Duvall evens the score wrecking gambling enterprises. 110 min. G. THE HARRAD EXPERIMENT — Drama (R). Harrad College offers a liberal education, particularly in sexual relations. Roommates are co-educational and exercise is done in the nude. 97 min. H. SUGARLAND EXPRESS — Drama (PG). Goldie Hawn talks her husband (William Atherton) into escaping from jail to help her get their baby back. She has been declared an unfit mother. The young couple kidnap a policeman to help them. 110 min. I. NAPOLEON AND SAMANTHA —Drama (G). A young orphan wants to bury his grandfather, hide his pet lion from the neighbors, and run off with his seven-year-old playmate. Michael Douglas obliges the child's first request and then finds himself May 14-21 in trouble with the lion and a homicidal maniac who just happened to be passing through. 92 min. J. THE CANDIDATE — Drama (PG). Robert Redford plays a little-known local politician and is picked by some political king-makers as the likely aspirant who can make it as a U.S. Senator. 110 min. K. TREASURE ISLAND — Adventure Drama (G). Orson Welles adds an entirely new dimension to Steven- son's classic adventure. Everything is here: the death mark of Black Spot, the voyage to Treasure Island, the mutiny of Silvers' crew, the escape Jo the island amid cannon fire, etc. 95 min. L. ENTER THE DRAGON — Action Drama (R). Bruce Lee goes to the island fortress of master criminal Shih Kien to find evidence to convict him of white slavery and opium trade. 99 min. M. CINDERELLA LIBERTY — Comedy Drama (R). James Caan is a confirmed sailor kept on land by a medi- cal problem. While on liberty one night he meets bar hustler Marsha Mason and falls in love. The relationship is strained when Caan finds that his soon-to-be wife is pregnant by someone else. 117 rain. N. ALL THE WAY BOYS-Action Drama (PG). Two barn- storming pilots (Terrance Hill and Bud Spencer) deliberately ditch their plane to collect the in- surance. Unhurt, they arrive at a settlement of miners digging for emeralds and meet an old friend who tells of having found a deposit of emeralds and doesn't want to touch them. 108 min. O. FANTASTIC PLANET — Animated Cartoon (PG). On a distant planet, two races of man have evolved — the super-intelligent Draags and the primitive Oms. One of the Oms learns to read, write and think through one of the Draags' education head- pieces. Other Oms are educated and become better able to resist extermination by the Draags. The Oms finally force the Draags to a compromise and restore harmony on the planet. 85 min. P. PAPILLON — Action Drama (PG). Arriving to- gether at the French penal colony of Saint Laurent in French Guiana, fellow convicts Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman make a pact for protection and escape. The first two attempts at escape are un- successful and McQueen is sent to solitary con- finement on both occasions. The third escape is successful. 151 min. Q. THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING — Adventure Drama (PG). Sean Connery and Michael Caine are a pair of larcenous British soldiers of fortune who de- cide to alter a primitive kingdom by installing themselves as kings intent on plundering whatever treasures the land can offer before returning to Britain as wealthy gentlemen. 121 min. R. . FRIDAY FOSTER — Action Drama (R). A young Black photo-journalist (Pam Grier) covers the air- port arrival of Blake Tarr (Thalmus Rasula), "the Black Howard Hughes." The plot thickens as three gunmen open fire on the visiting billionaire and Pam proves herself as a fighting reporter. 90 min. S. THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JUDGE ROY BEAN— Western Drama (PG). Roy Bean (Paul Newman) rides into Vinegaroon, Texas as an outlaw. He tangles with a gang of outlaws and ends up killing them. He then takes up residence in the town, claiming he knows the law, having broken it so often in the past. 123 min. T. THE GREAT WALTZ—Musical (G). The film is the life and the music of Johann Strauss. 135 min. U. THE VALACHI PAPERS— Action Drama (R). The story of the confessions of Joseph Valachi, the Mafia "soldier" who squealed when his hoodlum friends turned against him. 125 min. V. BILLY TWO HATS— Western (PG). Gregory Peck and Desi Arnaz, Jr. are two outlaws trying to evade lawman Jack Warden. 100 min. W. OLD DRACULA — Comedy (PG). Count Dracula (David Niven) is entertaining tourists in his Transylvanian castle in hopes of finding blood of the right type to bring back the Countess Vampira. 88 min. X. DON'T LOOK NOW— Supernatural (R). Donald Sutherland is an architect working on a church in Venice. He has psychic experiences involving his wife, Julie Christie, and his daughter who has recently died. 110 min. Y. SCARLET COAT— Bicentennial Film (G). This is a Revolutionary War espionage story told against the background of General Benedict Arnold's be- trayal of the American cause. 101 min. Top of the Rock Tonight at the Top of the Rock the pay day special is surf and turf. "Free and Easy" will perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tomorrow there is a movie at 3 p.m. The special in the dining room is a Mexican dinner and "Eik" will play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. It's breakfast at 11:30 a.m. on Sun- day. Bingo starts at 2 p.m. There will be a buffet in the dining room from 5 to 8 p.m., a movie at 7 p.m. and Free and Easy will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight. On Monday the dining special is roast beef. "Strut" will play from 8 p.m. to midnight. It's bingo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wednesday is Striker's Night and the dining special is barbecued chicken. Strut will play from 8 p.m. to midnight. Happy Hour is from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday. There is a pizza special in the dining room and Strut will play from 8 p.m. to midnight. The food special on Friday is Fish Orly. "Cabaret" will play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Midnight Sun Tonight at the Midnight Sun Club it's a pay day special of 50q-off large pizzas. It's also steak night tonight. "Strut" will perform for the first time at the Sun from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tomorrow there is a movie at 4 p.m. Strut will play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. For the first time, the Midnight Sun is having a buffet from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. FRA Tickets went on sale this week for the June 5 Fleet Reserve Association Officers' Installation at the Glacier Hut. Tickets cost $1 each and a membership card is required to purchase tickets. Toastmistresses 7:30 p.m. Tuesday the dining room will be open 6 to 9 p.m., featuring Viennerschnitzel, potato salad, vegetable and rolls for $3. Wednesday a disco will be held 8 p.m. until midnight. Dining room will be open 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday the dining room will operate 6 to 9 p.m. The special will be spa- ghetti. Bingo will be played at 8 p.m. Friday the Nightingales perform 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The dining room will be open 7 to 9 p.m. Rockville Tonight the Rockville NCO Club will have Happy Hour from 5 to 6 p.m. Dining room opens at 5:30 p.m. The special will be filet mignon. The Officers Wives' Club will have a buffet dinner and entertainment from 7 to 10 p.m. On Sunday there is a roast beef buf- fet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and a movie at 7:15 p.m. The Casual Bar is open from 5 p.m. to midnight on Monday. It is Duplicate Bridge at 7:15 p.m. The food special on Tuesday is Vien- erschnitzel in the bar from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday is Bowling Steak Night at the Officers' Club. Happy Hour is from 5 to 7 p.m. and the Candle Light Room is open from 7 to 10 p.m. Interested in what happens when fil- ing a claim with a government official, the Cremation of Sam McGee, life in old England, the blues—or a tour of Thai- land? These were only a few of the subjects covered at the speech contest for stu- dents held at A.T. Mahan High School. Amid the keen competition shown by the participants, prizes were awarded to five students. Kerry Eastham won in the informative speech category. In the poetry interpretation division four winners were selected. They are as follows: Pam Ratcliffe, Shelley Kennedy, Jenny Johnson and Tammy Patter- son. Contest judges were Pauline Bosserdet who is education chairperson of the Puffin Toastmistress Club and Erla Guomundsdottir, Varoan Toastmistress Club president. The contest was sponsored by the Puffin Toastmistress Club.
