NATO Base
wins first match
The 21-member NATO Base team won
the first match of the annual Friendship
Golf Tournament, 748 to 780, over the
21 - member Ness Golf Club team from
Reykjavik at the Keflavik Golf Course
Sunday.
As well as teams scoring, there were
four individual trophies awarded. One
to Loftur Olafsson with an excellent
round of 74 for first place scratch, the
lowest score with no handicap. Fred
Davis took the trophy for first place
with handicap with a 69 and second place
with handicap went to James Bullock, net
71. The fourth trophy was awarded to
Jon Amasson, the golfer who came
closest to the pin on hole five (the
"Hole-in-One Champion").
The winning team was determined by
adding the ten lowest scores together.
The return match is slated for August
14 at the Ness Golf Course in Reykjavik.
Following the match on Sunday, an
awards banquet was held at the Rockville
NCO Club.
Fiala a finalist in
BOBNOV Golf Cup
RM1 Richard D. Fiala, who works at
the Naval Communication Station, is one
of the finalists in two match - play
elimination tournaments the BOBNOV
(Russian Ambassador's Cup) and the
REPLOGLE (American Ambassador's Cup) at
the Ness Golf Club in Reykjavik.
Fiala has won all his individual
matches played thus far in these two
competitions. The finals of the BUBNOV
Cup will be played next week.
Fiala won first place Monday in the
Pierre Robert Open Tournament held at
the Ness Golf Course. He was awarded a
prize and a gold medal.
Last Friday he scored a hole-in-one
on the 135 meter sixth hole at the Ness
Golf Course.
He received a Hole-In-One Trophy
at the ceremonies following the Tourney
on Monday.
Huebscher hits 675
forN avF&c Team
Mary Huebscher of NavFac was chosen
player of the week as she steadily pro-
gressed to the head of the hitters'
list. Although her team has been in the
lower half of the standings, Mary has
consistently been an outstanding per-
former. She is noted for her excellent
fielding, strong arm and big bat as she
combats the stronger Waves and Indepen-
dent Teams. Mary comes from San Antonio,
Tex. and is constantly leading the women
in their fight for a place in the sun.

Speccom takes
AFI, 10-9
Speccom's 10 to 9 win over AFI was
picked as the game of the week. Speccom
took a 3-1 lead in the third inning,
trailed 4-3 after four, the score was
6-6 after five and trailed 8-7 until the
seventh when Speccom scored three runs,
on hits by Barney Bauerschmedt, Gordy
Schooler and Mike Yoder. AFI answered
with a score on Mike Southard's homer
but their ralley fell short on a great
throw by Barney Bauerschmedt which cut-
down the tying run.
Leading hitters for the winning team
werei Schooler 3/4; Mike Intihar 2/3,
and for AFI it was: Mike Southerland
3/4, and a homer, Fred Lewis 3/4 and a
homer and Buster Keyton 2/3. The win-
ning pitcher was Tony Barfield while
Zack Beers took the loss.
