Health and welfare shipments stop
CFK & NCS to play off
In the slowpitch tourney, NSGA is the
only team in the winner's bracket as
they have defeated NCS, 8-6, Weapons,
6- 1 and CFK, 9-7. CFK and NCS are
scheduled for a play-off to determine
who meets NSGA for the championship.
Many teams were up for the tourney as
Weapons upset second-seeded Rockville,
7- 6; the Dispensary out mudded Supply
20-10 and CFK beat 57th FIS, 4-1. AFI
came within one out of upsetting CFK and
Football season
starts tomorrow
Fifteen teams answered the call to
arms and the season opens tomorrow with
a full slate of seven games. NSGA, as
defending champion, must be recognized
as the team to beat, however, the VP-49
"Woodpeckers" are back and ready to stir
up some trouble before it's over. The
57th, Marines and CFK are always tough.
Most of the other teams are unknown
quantities.
A good quarterback or a couple of
good pass receivers will make any team
competition and plenty of the men in the
trenches are available.
Horseshoe tourney
Unless more entries are received, the
1976 horseshoe tourney will not be held.
Sign up at the base gym or call 7298 or
5191.
NCS was one fly ball from beating NSGA.
In the intermediate tourney, NCS was
the only undefeated team at press time
with NSGA and Rockville having one loss
each. Supply lost to Rockville in a
12-10 game in nine innings and then lost
3-2 to AFI. Air Ops was one out from
beating Rockville earlier. Improved
pitching has helped the Rockville and
NCS teams and pitching is the only thing
preventing NSGA from winning it all.
Admin takes first
Admin has clinched first place in the
intramural golf championships while
second is up for grabs among VP-49, CFK
and Rockville. A base championship
tourney will be held in the near future.
September 6 is the scheduled date for
play.
Air Force personnel going to or re-
turning from an overseas assignment will
not be allowed health-and-welfare ship-
ments after September 30, 1977. These
shipments are those which are in addi-
tion to the authorized unaccompanied
baggage or household goods limit set for
moves to restricted areas.
Shipment applications for health-and-
welfare items in excess of unaccompan-
ied baggage or limited household goods
allowance must be submitted by Septem-
ber 30, 1976. These applications may
include only items bought before August
1, 1976.
Health-and-welfare shipments include
such items as stereo equipment, hobby
gear and almost any item used to main-
tain an individual's morale and welfare.
RAdm. Rich continued,,,
munications, and you establish communi-
cations through strong leadership. We
must remain alert to ’rumor control' and
establish means for disseminating accur-
ate and timely information, while re-
maining alert to misinformation."
Admiral Rich also praised the young-
er generation of military men and women
and dependents for their maturity and
judgment during times of potential cri-
sis !
"You know, it is easy for us ’older’
adults to critisize the younger genera-
tion. But they are no more prone to
trouble than we were. Perhaps they have
a greater variety of means for getting
into trouble...but we also have better
communications and a more progressive
and highly competitive society."
Rear Admiral Rich has been ordered to
head the Navy's Human Resources Manage-
ment Office in Washington, D.C., a job
he looks forward to. He reflected on
his tour in Iceland, and how it pre-
pared him for that task.
"Every job helps prepare you to work
with people, to get along with people.
But this tour in Iceland has been great
for living in a close community. You
get to know people, and our somewhat re-
stricted movement here seems to bring
out the best in people. People do more
Persons who bought health and welfare
items before August 1 this year will be
granted shipping authority upon evidence
of date of purchase or certification of
the date of purchase if documentation
is not available. Items acquired on or
after August 1 will not be considered
for approval.
Excess weight allowance will still be
approved for special equipment or medi-
cal supplies required by a doctor.
Exceptions will also be made when
overseas housing supply cannot furnish
certain items such as refrigerators or
stoves. Persons going on bases with
shortages of items may get permission to
ship their own refrigerator or stove in
addition to their regular shipment
weight.
for the community...it's people helping
each other which fosters mutual support
at all levels and brings about peak ef-
ficiency and therefore readiness.
"We've worked very closely under dif-
ficult circumstances brought on by per-
sonnel, economic and political con-
straints, and we've made real progress."
Earlier this week, in a television
interview scheduled for viewing tonight
at 10:15, Rear Admiral Rich said this a-
bout his job:
"Being the boss is a nice experience
- you get credit for all that goes right
and everyone else does the work...it is
relatively easy to make policy, but the
difficult job is to carry out that poli-
cy... it's easy to wish out loud, but it
takes hard work to make things happen.
So my most satisfying experience in Ice-
land has been wishing out loud, then
seeing dedicated people implement my
policies and translate them into action
programs that work. It is not me per-
sonally who makes these things happen,
it is the people of the Defense Force...
their accomplishments add up to our ac-
complishments collectively. To me, see-
ing it all work and seeing our people
carry out in such an effective manner
the goals and objectives I personally
established, has been most rewarding.
For their support, I am deeply grateful'.*
