KBA holds ’Scotch Doubles’
The first meet of the Keflavik Bowl-
ing Association bi-monthly "Jackpot
Scotch Doubles" was held Saturday night
at the Arctic Lanes.
According to coordinator Chic Lomona-
co, the events are being staged to raise
money for the KBA scholarship fund and
to provide entertainment to bowling en-
thusiasts. He said the KBA is hoping to
award the largest scholarship or schol-
arships ever presented to a graduating
student or students of A.T. Mahan class
of 77.
"By starting early," he added, "we
know we have better chances of achieving
our goal. Saturday night was a great
success. Approximately 40 couples par-
ticipated in the event and we raised
about $50 for the fund."
Scotch Doubles is open to all KBA
members. The only requirement is to
sign up for the event as a couple (man/
woman team) and pay entry fee at the
time of bowling. A sign up sheet is
usually posted on the bulletin board in
the bowling alley.
Grindy beats VP-49
in post-season game
For the base football championship,
Grindavik upheld the pre-tournament
favorite’s row by defeating VP-49 in the
post-season tourney, 20-0.
Grindy won the league championship,
remaining undefeated in the 14-game
schedule.
At first, the game was a stand-off
and tied in the first half, 0-0.
However, Grindy won out as their de-
fense again was outstanding as they held
the "Woodpeckers" scoreless while Randy
Spillers, ace quarterback, connected on
three touchdown passes, two to Tom
Spiehs, 15 yards and a third to Bill
Rathfan, in eight yards.
Grindy tacked on two extra points to
complete the rout to the season's end.
VP-49's defense proved outstanding
until they tired in the last half of
play.
