mas .
Thursday shopping hours
The Navy Exchange main store will
be open until 5 p.m. Thanksgiving
Day. On Thursdays, from Dec. 2 to
Dec. 23, the main store and the
Driftwood Cafeteria will be open un-
til 9 p.m. The main store will be
open until 8 p.m. today.
Deli news
Have you been to the Mini-Mart
lately? The store has expanded the
items in the Deli section. In the
cheese department there is a fine
selection of American, Danish, Swiss,
etc. Two very good Danish cheeses
are Danbo and Finbo; the Swiss Emmen-
thaler is equally good, and Feta
cheese, similar to cottage cheese, is
also available.
The store also has turkey, sliced
to order, as well as Honey Loaf, Bar-
B-Que Loaf, Virginia baked ham, and
hot dogs, served plain or with sauer-
kraut .
Visit the Mini-Mart today. Hours
of operation are 9:30 a.m. to 11
p.m., seven days a week.
Stereo Shop
Records, cassettes and cartridges
make excellent, economical gifts.
They are the types of presents that
are often appreciated. Many people
never seem to get around to buying
such items for themselves. There is
also a good supply of blank tapes
available for the hi-fi buff on your
lists. Don't forget the children's
records at Toyland. These are ideal
"stocking stuffers" for Christmas.
Give a gift of music; a gift that
can be used over and over.
Check-cashing
Check-cashing at the Navy Exchange
activities is a privilege granted to
patrons.
Many patrons abuse this privilege
by cashing checks when the money in
their account is not adequate to
cover the check written or they have
previously closed the account.
Money obtained from the exchange
from cashing a check is government
funds and, therefore, an individual
who cashes a check that is returned
for insufficient funds or account
closed has willfully defrauded the
U.S. Gove rnmen t.
Upon receipt of returned checks
from the bank, the Navy Exchange will
notify the military member and deter-
mine if the fault lies with the bank
or individual. If the individual is
responsible, a letter will be for-
warded to the member's commanding of-
ficer within five days. The military
member is responsible for his depend-
ents' actions as week as his own, so
a letter is also sent to the member's
commanding officer if his dependent
has written a worthless check.
These actions can seriously impair
a serviceman's career in that they
may be considered during reviews of
recommendations for advancement and
reenlistment.
The time and expense involved in
attempting to get reimbursement for
returned checks is significant. For
example, a person who writes a bad
check will end up paying a charge to
the exchange. This expense directly
affects the amount of money received
by the Special Services Department
for your recreational needs.
Utilize the Navy Exchange check-
cashing service properly and avoid
those letters to the CO and addition-
al expenses.
Customer Inquiries
I am an avid SLR photo bug and I
have been unable to buy 35mm Kodacol-
or other negative film in the ex-
change for several weeks. Should I
continue to order from the States or
may I expect the Navy Exchange to
stock 35mm color print film?
The exchange has two outstanding
orders that are 30 to 60 days over-
due. Mr. Walter Isaac of the Kodak
Company, who visited the exchange
Wednesday, is checking out these or-
ders for the exchange. The merchan-
dise should be in any day now. The
exchange has placed a special order
for Christmas to be shipped via com-
mercial air. This order should be in
the store within the next two or
three weeks.

order batteries for them?
The original orders were to in-
clude replacement batteries for
watches ordered. However, the bat-
teries received were not the bat-
teries needed. Orders are placed
to stock replacement batteries-

and comb sheepskins at reduced price
from Thanksgiving Day until Nov. 30.

The tobacco counter at the main
store has been relocated in the Book
store area. This allowed the Special
Order desk to be moved into the form-
er tobacco area, thus providing the
much needed space in the self-service
area for many new items coming in.

Thanksgiving...in the word lives
the essence of the day. We give
thanks...for the blessings large and
small, bestowed on one and all. And
because we are thankful, we gladly
give of our energy and our efforts,
our aims and ambitions, on behalf of
all, that everyone may be blessed,
and be thankful.
On this Thanksgiving Day, we look
back across the years and forward to
the future with thanks for the pleni-
tude that we have been privileged to
enjoy, and with the steadfast resolve
that in the years ahead we will do
our part to bring forth more achieve-
ments, more good things for all.

TOURS

Stateside tickets
If you are planning on traveling to
the States, you can pruchase tickets for
Stateside flights at the Tour Office.
When going to the States on Loftleid-
ir, they can make reservations all the
way to your final destination. Upon
returning by the rotator or some mili-
tary flight, the Tour Office can sell an
open ticket for wherever you want to go
in the States.
An open ticket works like a trans-
portation request here, and it has your
arrival and departure cities listed on
it, but no actual flights, flight num-
bers or times. This means when you
leave here, you do not have reservations
on any flights within the United States.
When you get to the States, though,
take the open ticket to the airline
counter, and they will book you on the
flights you want.
And, there is one big advantage in
purchasing your tickets here before you
leave, whether open ticket or reserved
seat type. By buying here you save
eight per cent of what you would have
paid if you bought them in the States.

Group flight to London during Christ-
mas
The Tour Office has arranged for a
group flight, going to London during the
Christmas holidays. It will leave here
Dec. 18 and return Dec. 29.
To qualify for the flight, you have
to take either an airfare/hotel package
if you plan to stay in London, or make
arrangements to take another tour from
London.
If you decide to go on from London,
The Tour Office has many tours
maybe arranged for you to Lisbon,
rid, Athens, Amsterdam, Brussel
Venice, Rome, Paris, etc.

DOD announces new CHAMPUS contracts
New contracts went into effect Nov.
15 for processing claims submitted from
Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico
and Texas under the Civilian Health and
Medical Program of the Uniformed Serv-
ices (CHAMPUS), the Department of De-
fense has announced.
The new contracts replaced the one
held by Health Application Systems, Inc.
of Burlingame, CA.
California Physicians' Service will
process CHAMPUS claims for care received
in Arizona, California, Nevada and New
Mexico. Mutual of Omaha Insurance Com-
pany will process claims for care re-
ceived in Texas by CHAMPUS beneficia-
ries.
Nov. 15 was set as the date for new
contractors to take over in the five
states following negotiations with
Health Application Systems, Inc. On
Oct. 29, the Department of Defense an-
nounced that the contract with Health
Application Systems, Inc. would not be
renewed beyond the Dec. 31, 1976 ex-
piration date.
CHAMPUS claims for care received in
Arizona, California, Nevada and New
Mexico should be sent to: California
Physicians' Service, San Diego, CA
92138. Each state has been assigned its
own box number.
Arizona: P.0. Box 85019; California:
P.0. Box 85020; Nevada: P.0. Box 85023;
and New Mexico: P.0. Box 85021.
CHAMPUS beneficiaries in Texas should
send their claims for care received in
that state to: Mutual of Omaha Insur-

The first nationwide celebration
of the holiday, as we know it today,
obtained its impetus from the efforts
of Mrs. Sara Josepha Hale, whose
novel in 1827 described "pumpkin pie"
and the "good and true Yankee Thanks-
giving."
Later in 1846, she started a cam-
paign in her famous "Godey's Lady's
Book" to have a national observance
of the first Thanksgiving. She was
finally successful when President
Lincoln proclaimed the first national
Thanksgiving on Nov. 26, 1863.
But whoever or whatever date was
"first," this Thanksgiving Day, Nov.
25th, Virginians, Bay Staters, and
all Americans will sit down to
Thanksgiving dinner with thankful
hearts and a prayer for the United
States of America as it begins its
third century*

E~3. E-4. E-5 exams scheduled
The monthly E-3 exams and E-4 and E-5
Military Leadership exams will be ad-
ministered at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 7 at the
Midnight Sun Club.
According to Personnelman Second
Class Robert Robida of the Naval Station
Personnel Office, candidates must be
recommended to participate in the exam.
He also said that candidates' recommen-
dations and completed requirements must
reach the Personnel Office no later than
8 a.m. Friday.
Exams participants are advised to be
on time, be in military uniform and pos-
sess a valid identification card.
Reenlistment
Radioman Third Class Robert E. Bower
reenlisted for four years under the
GUARD II program yesterday. The reen-
listment oath was administered by Com-
mander H. W. Benter,
New snivels
A set of twins, Samuel Michael and
Dawn Michelle, were born Nov. 14 at 4:36
and 4:37 p.m., respectively. Their par-
ents are Elizabeth Lucille and HM2 Ricky
Edward Hicks. P02 Hicks is attached to
Grindavik.
Disa Bjorg was born Nov. 16 at 7:19
p.m. Her parents are Rebecca A. and DTI
Arthur Hanson Jr. P01 Hanson is attach-
ed to the Dental Department.
