Cage action: ‘A* league-3-way race
The "A" league is a three-way race
among VP-49, Hosp. and Marines with VP-
49 slightly favored. Mike Ritson leads
the Woodpeckers; Hosp. features strong
rebounding and the shooting of Phil
Christmas tourney slated
A special Christmas tourney is held
annually. The 16 best basketball play-
ers are chosen as team captains and they
draw for all other players, including
girls. The girls' points count double
their value and every girl must play two
minutes in each half. This year coaches
may volunteer to coach the various
teams. To sign up, call Dick Plante at
5191 or 4558 for a chance to complete
during the holidays.
Games of the Week
Denny Radford with 32 points, led
the NavFac Fusiliers to a 49-47 double
overtime win over the AFI Bearcats.
Denny hit on every shot when he took 14-
18 from the floor and got 4-8 from the
fowl line.
Powell Crosley led by 12 for the AFI
Bearcats, followed by Bob Gross and Ned
Bobbins with 10 each.
Players of the Week
Ned Shelgren of Det. 14 and Denny
Radford of NavFac were chosen as co-
players of the week. Shelgren scored 20
and 30 points in two games for 30 of the
37 points scored by the Jolly Green
Giants to gain their maiden vic-
tory, 37-32, over IKA. Shelgren, a for-
ward, uses a jump shot as his best wea-
pon .
Radford had his greatest day when his
32 points led his team to a narrow 47-
45 win over the AFI Bearcats. Denny hit
11 straight baskets, scoring on drives,
jump shots and layups, hitting on 14-18
shots.

Leaeue standing:
Miller and Randy Williams. Rick
Mitchell and Walt Medina, who keep
their play disciplined, take top Marine
<scoring. The other teams have good in-
dividual stars, however, they lack the
depth of being consistent.
Two teams, competing for the "B"
league crown, boil down league play.
VP-49 "B" and AIMD are three games ahead
with VP-49 favored. Bob Simister leads
AIMD and Dave Davis and Ed BattenfieId
head VP-49. CFK has Tom Abrahamson, the
other teams might rise but they lack the
ability to sustain a drive.
Weather and Grindy emerge as top con-
tenders in "C" league action with the
High School Vikings, having an outside
chance. The "C" leaguers are erratic. A
transfer could have a big effect on the
league standing.
High School looms in the ladies'
league the first half, however, the
addition of the Jupiter Pluvius team in
the second half will place them as
favorites to win the overall crown.
Trailblazers chalk 4th
win; edge Lakers, 22-20
Trailblazers-for their fourth victory-
downed the Lakers 22-20.
Mary Jorewicz led the Blazers with 10
points.
Janet Moore hit four three-point bas-
kets to score 14 points for the Lakers.
Billikens avenge loss in
65-56 win over Vikings
The NATO Billikens evened their three
game series with the Njardvik Vikings,
65-56, avenging a 95-80 defeat at the
visitors' gym. The third game is sched-
uled for Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. Mike Ritson
led NATO scoring with 16; Ned Shelgren
and Dave Groom followed with 10 each.
