High School drops NavFac 12-0
to highlight homecoming event
High School dropped NavFac 12-0 in
their homecoming game Friday to make the
annual event a very successful one.
In other football action, it was Det.
1/AFI over NSGA 12-8 and then defeating
NavSta 6-0.
VP-24 continues to show their might,
combining a good ground attack with
their aerial antics.
In their meeting with AIMD/Supply
last week VP-24 finished up with a 26-0
shutout. The passing arm of Roven and
the excellent broken field running of
Bama provides some really exciting
action for the spectator. The Patron
team remains number one in the league
and defeated High School 14-0, NSGA 18-0
and CFK/IDF 6-0 in games last week.
The pinpoint passing of quarterback
Hurley and the sticky fingers of Davis
and Easter teamed up to drop NavFac
34-6.
An interception and 25 yard runback
for a touchdown by Peters started Grindy
on their road to victory although the
NavFac defense was game they were no
match for the Grindy powerhouse this
time out.
AIMD/Supply won over NavFac 6-0
but lost to NSGA by the same score.
NSGA defeated NavSta 6-0 and tied Grindy
in a scoreless game, while Det. 14 edged
the Marines 2-0 on a safety.
“Fun Runs’’ set Oct. 15
Recreation Department to sponsor sprint
The Recreation Department is sponsor-
ing the first of its annual 10,000 meter
"Fun Runs" to be held Oct. 15.
The course will be along the essen-
tially flat, scenic road to Dye-5. The
run will be with the wind, more or less,
from the base gym to Dye-5 or vice-versa.
There will be only one open division for
all participants. Finishing times will
be published.
Starting time will be at 10 a.m. so
be at the gym early in case the run has
to be reversed due to the wind. No
entry fee, no trophy, no free T-shirts,
just a good competitive run.
Weightlifting starts
next year at gym
for competition
A powerlifting competition is sched-
uled for Jan. 7, 1978 at the Base jym*
First and second place winners will
receive a trophy for their weight class.
Lifts will include the squat, bench press
and the deadlift.
Weight classes are as follow: 123,
132, 148, 165, 181, 198, 220 and super
heavyweight.
The lifter must have a body weight
equal to or below the weight class in
which they are competing. For more in-
formation personnel may contact Cook at
ext. 6107.
USO spot
The Special Services Department is
planning a series of six USO shows to
take place here sometime during this «■
fiscal year.
The first show is slated for Nov.
4-9, and will star "the Friends and
Family." Exact times and locations
of performances are not yet known, but
will be announced well in advance of the
shows.
According to Lieutenent Commander
C. G. Green, Special Services Officer,
Special Services is attempting to get as
many of the shows as possible scheduled
during the winter months. However, the
USO shows are on a circuit which
includes Iceland as well as other
European countries so circuit
requirements and weather conditions in
Iceland may well be determining factors
as to when the shows will arrive here.
