BUILT in a contemporary design, the Lodge offers modern facilities and recreational activities (below). LOCATED on an Icelandic farm, Hvitarbakki allows "roughing it" to be at its best (right). Hvitarbakki .* Since arriving in Iceland, have you heard about but never actually seen awe-inspiring waterfalls, dazzling gey- sers, amazing caves or thrilling green- houses? Have you felt the urge to go horseback riding, fish in sparkling streams or hunt for duck? If so, why not visit the Tour Office to make reservations for the last week- end of the season at the Hvitarbakki Lodge Dec. 9. The Lodge hosts a variety of activi- ties for all members of the family, and is located in one of the most beautiful areas in Iceland. Of course, if you cannot obtain reservations for the Dec. 9 weekend, the Lodge will tentatively reopen in April for another season of fun-filled weekends. The Youth Center sponsors a camp for NATO base children in the summer. A nice place to visit When driving to the Lodge, you might stop at Whale Bay during the whaling season to view an incoming whale. Or, if you prefer, you may take the ferry to Akranes to the Lodge. Fishing at the Lodge in the summer months is available free; duck hunting may be pursued in the winter, but a fee will be required. Reservations must be made in person at the Tour Office at a mimimal charge. If you cannot go on your designated day, the Tour Office re- quests that you inform the office by noon Thursday. For a chance to explore Iceland first-hand, the Hvitarbakki Lodge is the place to do it. For further information about the Hvitarbakki Lodge, call the Tour Of- fice at 4200 or 4420. (UL) or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved. Ensure any lighting used outdoors is the special weatherproof type. Plan the location of the tree so that it is well away from any source of heat, such as radiators, heating ducts and outlets or space heaters. To limit the use of extension cords, place the tree close to an electrical outlet;. However, do not place the tree in front of the outlet because the lights have to be unplugged. Buy a firm fresh tree. A dried out tree becomes highly combustible. Store tree in a cool place, in water, until ready for use. Cut at least one inch off the base of the tree (a fresh cut helps tree absorb water) and keep water level in stand a- bove the cut (check daily). In addition, consider giving the tree extra support with guy wires. Never put lighted candles on the tree or near any evergreen decorations. Use noncombustible materials or flame retardant decorations.' Take the tree down as soon as possi- ble after Christmas.
