WISHING FOR TWO, that's Jensen's wish as he lets go a set shot against
Supply in Tuesday night's intramural game. AIMD's wishes failed as
Supply dumped them 57-48.
Jackson, Crowell top scorers
Supply pops
Supply took inventory on AIMD and
when the last item was counted it looked
as though AIMD got short changed by nine
points as the final score read 57-48.
Jerry Jackson found himself in the
right place at the right time with his
14 points to lead Supply in their scor-
ing. Jerry hit from the outside on nine
consective attempts of 20 feet.
Glenn Growell was lucky with his
southpaw shooting, he followed Jackson
with 12 points and a half dozen rebounds
to give Supply the depth at the forward
position.
McCarty for AIMD was the big gun for
his team by hitting the net nine times
for a total of 18 points to lead the
scoring for both teams.
During the second half action the
AIMD 57-48
scoreboard failed and there was a pause
in the action to give both teams a
breather.
AIMD returned with a 20 footer by
Jensen and the sure hands of Couglin to
put the game back into a contest, but
Tony Stevenson saved an out of bounds
pass and Supply went ahead with their
game plan, which was to run the score
on AIMD.
AIMD had three men in double figures,
they were McCarty with 18 points, Claus
with 10 and Couglin with 10 points to
round out the two digit figures.
Supply also had three men in double
figures, they were Jackson with 14
points, Crowell with 12 points and Lucas
with 10 points to round out the double
figures for Supply.
Fast break proves effective
The old fashion fast break led by
Chico McLean proved its worth Tuesday
night as VP-16B pulled away from Hospi-
tal 52-34.
Chico managed to handle the ball a-
long with Steve Wagner in bringing the
ball down court to prove VP’s ball
handling skill with big Bobby Clinton
carrying the ball to the hoop.
In the second half action VP-16B
went into their zone defense for the
first five minutes and then switched to
man-to-man to take the lead.
The man-to-man proved to be the most
effective as VP-16B pulled 14 points
ahead to make the catch up impossible
for Hospital.
High point men for VP were Clinton
with 8 points, Panter 8 points and
Clower also with 8 points. Other team-
mates added the remainder to put VP's
record at 10 wins and three losses.
"The entire game was evenly scored
and all but two players failed to pop
two points," Coach Dan Brennock said.
This victory puts VP-16B in first
place in their league.

NATO defeats Njardvik
66-61, brings cup home
NATO defeated the Njardvik basketball
team 66-61 to win the best of three
tournament for the Stappi Cup Tuesday
night here.
The perpetual Cup is retained one
year by the winning team. Last year
Njardvik won the 1977 Tournament over
NATO.
The first half action was mostly
back and forth with neither team out
playing the other and at the half the
score was tied at 36.
At the start of the second half NATO
looked as if they might open the game up
by scoring six quick points, but the
Njardvik team came back by scoring
eight points.
Athletic Director and Coach Dave
Catling decided that once NATO resumed
the lead he would have his offense to
stall the ball. NATO did resume the
lead and the stall was put into effect.
Njardvik apparently wasn't used to
defending against the stall and handed
NATO eight successive points.
Coach Catling remarked, " In all of
my days of playing and coaching basket-
ball I have never seen a team like mine
run the stall so effectively."
High scorers for NATO were Carl
McLaughen with 18, Bill Schroer and
Jerry Jackson both with 16 points.
Others scores came from Pat McPherson
with 8, Wes Reed and Gary Glenn both
with 4 and Chico McLean with 2.
BIGGER THEY ARE the harder they 'should'
fall were Chico's thoughts as he tries
to block Gunnar's lay up shot in Tuesday
night's hardcourt action but failed to
come through with his effort. NATO took
Njardvik 66-61 to gain control of the
Stappi Cup for one year. Njardivk had
control of the cup last year but failed
to retain the title.
