Navy institutes RP rating for
Creation of a Religious Program
Specialist (RP) rating for paygrades E-l
through E-9 has been approved by the
Secretary of the Navy.
Designed to assist Navy chaplains in
some of their administrative and
budgetary tasks, the new rating will
give chaplains more time to meet
spiritual needs and provide pastoral
care for military personnel and their
families.
Religious Program Specialists will
assist in management of religious
programs and facilities, maintain record
records of chapel funds and appropriated
funds in support of religious programs,
train personnel involved in religious
programs, publicize religious activities
chapel
and supervise the offices of chaplains.
A screening board, expected to
convene in late summer 1978, will
consider applicants for rating
conversion. It is estimated that the
rating will increase to about 500 person
personnel during the next three years.
At present there are 203 Yeoman-2525
chaplain's clerk billets. With full
establishment of the RP rating this NEC
will be retired. Candidates will attend
a class 'A' school at the Air Force
Chapel Management Specialist School at
Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS. The
rating is sized on a 3/3 sea/shore
rotation basis.
A July 1978 Bureau of Naval Personnel
Notice will provide additional details.

NATO Base Little League Baseball Associa-
tion will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. The
meeting will be held in the passenger
